It's a genre with its own tropes and themes like every other genre. Some is good, some is bad.

A lot of the genre's conventions are unfortunate, but there's a lot of cute stuff out there too, if you dig for it.

As long as it stays in its own genre and doesn't get all up in real fandoms I'm fine with it. The perverts just need to keep it to themselves.

I'd quote Morishima Akiko "the opposite of seme is protector" which is what I like in slash over yaoi tropes.

I worry a lot that liking it is exploitative or fetishizing.

Other than that, "pro".

Used to like it in the 90's when it was still something subversive/counterculture.

Now don't give a single flying fuck.

I prefer Bara to Yaoi by far. I think yaoi is for straight women to fetishize gay men and I don't like that. But it's not like bara is the fantasy of all or even most gay men in or outside of Japan.

Even with all that said, I think it's awesome when I see women who champion bara. So I'm a hypocrite too.

Much less homophobic than they used to be.

I love it sexually.

Also genuinely. I'm gay, and while I don't think it's true that it "helps" LGBT rights or anything I rather like gay relationships getting the spotlight for once, and people finding it cute rather than disgusting.

It's a pretty wide genre. I like some of its subgenres, others not so much but they're pretty easy to avoid.

What I can't stand is slash fans that keep judging yaoi from their high horse. As if slash wasn't full of top/bottom preferences and other clichés. And let's not forget A/O/B and its popularity in slash fandoms.

Yeah, but like .... A/B/O isn't slash. It's yaoi lite.

As a slash fan I fucking hate it.

Yeah, agreed. As someone who has been in both yaoi and slash fandoms, there's no fucking difference. Like, MAYBE in yaoi fandoms you'll have more "who is the seme/uke" and are in slightly more danger of the "uke" being made a woobie... but the difference is so slight that it's probably negligible because people do tops vs bottoms in slash fandoms, too.

Yaoi, or shall we say BL, is hardly a "genre" on its own except that it is m/m. Especially since a lot of the fandom comes from ships that aren't even from things that are officially yaoi in the first place.

Honestly as a slash fan I can't stand A/B/O and I have no idea why or how it became so popular.

I like some of it; the stuff that isn't terribly drawn with grotesque anatomy (yaoi hands, mega-chins, dinner-plate-sized uke-eyes... you know, like Okane ga Nai).

I don't like seeing yaoi tropes in slashfic, though.

I wished it was bara.

It's okay. Doesn't really do it for me, though, unless it's an actual OTP.

At first I was into basically everything because it was new and exotic. I'm a little pickier now though not always for quality reasons.

I wish more yaoi would have a little more meat to them plot-wise, or be a little less generic in the bedroom.

I find most ultra feminine uke yaoi very unappealing. I like reading doujinshi where both people are more traditionally masculine.

I think yaoi hands are hilarious.

The series I'm enjoying the most right now is "Saezuru Tori wa Habatakanai" or "Songbirds Never Fly".

I'm not interested and I wish people would stop putting down het because of their preference for yaoi.
