Ugh, PREACH. Those "best jokes" often aren't even funny or they're less funny out of context. And in the more dramatic trailers now we've got the trend of ~~hauntingly reinventing~~ a song in some shitty cover that was only recorded for this trailer (the only really cool example of this IMO was that bit of "Wild World" in the Comic Con trailer for Fury Road, it took me several times to even realize it was that song and it was sparingly used). And don't even get me started on the non-sequential cuts of dialogue that make it look like that character is saying something in reply to something that just happened and we can all tell it's just edited that way as a desperate attempt to not tell us anything about what actually fucking happens in this movie besides crappy attempts at banter.

I'm watching less of them these days - if it has an actor/ess i'm interested in, i'm not watching the trailer before the film. It is funny to see how trailer trends have changed. You don't hear that many voice over these days, it's usually words on a scree (See; Jurassic World, the Ghostbusters teaser).

I recently rewatched the trailers for the original Kung Fu Panda and I think Pride and Prejudice and the voice overs - that didn't come from anyone within the film - were jarring. I don't even mind being spoiled in them, it's just the editing is SO tired and overdone.

Yeah I used to be all about trailers, but in recent years, if it's a movie I'm looking forward to, I avoid trailers whenever possible. I'm just tired of having so much spoiled, I guess.

If you've already decided you want to see the movie then trailers are not really for you anyway. Trailers are for the people who are undecided or haven't heard of it at all. They are a come buy me type of thing.

I used to love trailers and Hollywood movies! Now I actively avoid them. I don't know what it is, but I dislike 90% of what comes out of Hollywood these days and the fucking shitty trailers with their forced comedy and drama that spoil things don't help one bit.

I tend to hate them because lately (I think in desperate attempts to get more viewers), trailers are too long and give away too much of a story. I want to be surprised. I much prefer teasers (like Game of Thrones is doing now) that are actually leaving you wanting for me.

I don't mind some trailers but yeah, I do avoid them for the most part these days because they either give too much away or spoil something that would have been really cool to see the first time during the movie.

Oh, please. They don't show enough spoilers in movie trailers. They show a disjointed mess that tells you nothing about the movie's story or even tone. Most of the time the trailer actively seeks to deceive as to what the movie is about or what is going to happen, and that is why I have pretty much stopped going to the movies and download instead. If the trailers can't be honest and straightforward then I am not going to reward them with my money.

They need to get back to T2 style trailers where you get a potted synopsis of the movie.

I think you're right in that sometimes movie trailers misrepresent the actual film, and there are certainly times when they give too much away, but at the same time...I like a good trailer. Now, most trailers are only so-so, but when you find a truly great one...I can watch it over and over again, and it pumps me up a bit more every time! (Felt this way about the first Civil War trailer. Man, that was an amazing trailer.)

(Anonymous) 2016-02-21 10:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Depends on how the trailer's made, really. The bad ones give too much away, only you don't realize it until you watch the movie and find out that you've already heard all the good lines. Or there are those trailers that are trying not to give too much away but go the opposite direction: everything's a disjointed mess and you have no idea wtf is going on.

This is a big part of the reason why I loved Deadpool's marketing strategy so much.

Generally, especially in cases of remakes and sequels, I try to avoid trailers anyway so I go in with no expectations

That being said, I agree with this so much. All the surprise is gone.

In a world where...

One person hates movie trailers to the extreme, what does it take to avoid spoilers?

(Yeah sorry that doesn't quite work.)

(Anonymous) 2016-02-24 03:00 am (UTC)(link)
Most trailers are ass.
