Yeah tbh I don't think anybody is actually saying DOGS is a good manga. I wouldn't really venture to call anything from Shounen Jump "good," but it's enjoyable, and sometimes that's enough for me. You can't always eat steak-- sometimes you just want a big, greasy cheeseburger, and that's basically what you're going to get from a manga about pretty boys shooting shit up. If I want to read something good, I'll go get some Tezuka, but I really don't understand why DOGS is worse than any other fight-of-the-week you'd get from a Jump imprint title.

I know right? :'( to be honest you're going to be hard-pressed to find genius in most manga, but for most of them it's worth it to at least go along for the ride.

It's not from Shounen Jump, though, it's from Ultra Jump, which is a seinen magazine.

That's why I said "Jump imprint title."

But you also said "Shounen" Jump, which is what I wanted to correct.

That doesn't change the point that I still wouldn't necessarily call anything from Shounen Jump good. I'm sure pretty much nothing else in Ultra Jump is particularly good, either. Either way, it doesn't really change my point, unless we're just going to be super pedantic about it.

All I did was correct some minor error. Why are you blowing this out of proportion - instead of just saying "Oh, I mixed the magazines up" and be done with it?

seriously guys, I think you're expecting me to be more upset about this than I actually am. I did make a mistake, but I honestly thought the fact that I acknowledged that I am aware of the fact that there are other things in the world that are published besides Shounen Jump was enough but obviously I was wrong.

I'm not trying to blow anything out of proportion, but if I'm getting mad about anything, I am getting irritated that people are picking apart the sentiment of what I was trying to say just because I made a pretty inconsequential mistake in my phrasing.

Oh, I don't know, fans of Hadashi no Gen, Cat's Eye or even Hikaru no Go, fans of Nagai Go or just plain old Tezuka (who did, surprise surprise, have several titles in Jump once upon a time - Shounen Jump, too) might disagree.

Let alone the fans of Gunnm/Battle Angel Alita (Business Jump), Gantz (Young Jump) or Inoue Takehiko (who published in Young Jump and Shounen Jump, among others).

I'm kinda partial to Big Comic Original (due to their load of Urasawa) myself and honestly, the current titles in SJ kinda put me in despair, but to say all Jump imprints are automatically bullshit kinda misrepresents the situation.

Or maybe that's just me, seeing I don't even know what Dogs is in the first place and don't really give a damn.

Oh my goodness I didn't realize I was fucking such a beehive when I tried to say that I don't think there's anything world-shattering in Shounen Jump right now. Considering how rare good manga (or good comics in general) is, I didn't really think that was a pretty big stretch.

As fond as I am of huge, all-encompassing blanket statements, I guess I have to make sure to dot all my i's before I say anything that could cause people to jump right up my ass (JUMP GET IT) on F!S, because I sure as hell wasn't trying to say that Jump has never published anything worthwhile.

Statement the first: Learn to differentiate between SHOUNEN Jump and the other Jump titles. It might save your life! Or at least make you appear less an uneducated fantardling.

Statement the second: Having now read up on Dogs, I can see why you'd like it. Chain-smoking bishounen and mysterious scars, oh my! What NOVEL IDEA!

Statement the third: If you occasionally bothered to adjust your tone before flipping out and attempting to show how much you not care, people might not want to kick your arse to Mercury, if you know what I mean.

Statement the fourth: I'd guess the person doesn't dig Bleach either. Popular != good. In fact, usually something being popular means a direct trip to shittytown to drown in the ever same formula until you shit liquid boredom.

Incidentally, I hate Bleach and the last Jump title I read with any regularity AND finished was probably Rurouni Kenshin, so stop jumping on MY ass (LOL I MADE A FUNNY AIN'T I COOL).

So basically, you agree with me on a lot of this but you're too worried about making sure I know where I stand in this "fight?" I'm just a little off-put that apparently, since I made a mistake in a casual comment, I'm incredibly offensive-- even if that mistake wasn't even the point I was trying to make.

I was trying to say was that things that are popular are rarely good, BUT that doesn't mean that it's shameful to read them. Not everything is going to be Citizen Kane, and it's okay to go watch some worthless summer blockbuster every once in a while.

Maybe I'm just overly optimistic, but I wasn't really under the impression that anybody reading DOGS in particular had any sort of pretension that it was anything new, groundbreaking or even really special, but hey. Apparently I often overestimate the ability of fans to let things roll off their back, judging by all of this mess of COMPLETELY missing my point.

By the way, I'm flattered that you read up on DOGS just to try to attack me! I've never had anybody make angry assumptions about my taste before!

The replies to the subthread have been frozen, but I'd really like to say something in regards to onecomment in particular. I hope you don't mind when I quote it here, I'm using my Basch icon as a sign of goodwill.

I'm pretty sure she just said Shounen Jump, not Weekly Shounen Jump. That part's all you. Don't see any ranting going on except for on your end, Mr/Mrs/Ms/sflkajw Mouse.

But there is no magazine that's only called "Shounen Jump", except for the American one, but I don't think she meant that either.
Are you at all familiar with the terms "shounen" and "seinen"? They signify different age groups. Seinen manga are targeted at older people than Jump manga are.

And FWIW, since all those are sons/daughters of Shounen Jump, it's not inaccurate to just say "SHOUNEN JUMP" when referring to them. Srsly.

I don't immediately think of the seinen magazine Ultra Jump, because that's not what she said.

I admit this is confusing and I honestly don't expect everyone to have a perfect overview over all shounen, seinen and shoujo manga magazines (who CARES that much?), but it's strange that someone would want to insist on calling all Jump manga "Shounen" when it's pointed out to them that they aren't all shounen...
