Why are people boycotting Red Lobster?

Because white people are upset that she sung a song that was meant to be about Black Lives Matter and racism at the Superbowl half-time. It is kind of a stupid song where the lyrics don't really fit the message. And personally I hate the sound of it. But the anger of certain white people is hilarious. Like they didn't realize Beyonce was Black and think they own the Superbowl or something.

And if a white person likes it, then black people (on Tumblr) get mad because it's not for you, yt people!

I've honestly never seen that? I mean, it is a song for Black people and about empowering Black people, but that doesn't mean White people can't like it.

I doubt that is happening on a wide scale, or at all really. It's just more whining about SJWs and tumblr.

(Anonymous) 2016-02-24 01:13 am (UTC)(link)
according to the sjw side of tumblr and fb, yes it does.

There are some dumb, scared people in my community who don't know how much power we really have in Western Culture. Cause we slay.

Most of us are happy when non-Black folks enjoy things that originate in Black culture. We just wish you understood it better or would take time to learn and understand.

(Anonymous) 2016-02-24 02:10 am (UTC)(link)
that's not Black People making that noise.

I've not seen anyone say that white people can't enjoy it on a musical level and listen to it because they think it's good? They're just saying don't claim it as some kind of empowering anthem for themselves.

Ayart

So people are boycotting Red Lobster because of a Beyonce song that mentions Red Lobster, that Red Lobster has nothing to do with?

Yup. I don't get it either.

(Anonymous) 2016-02-24 12:55 am (UTC)(link)
That's one of the dumbest things I ever heard of, tbh.

There are some people who get offended even by the existence of anything remotely connected to anything even tangentially social justice related.

people are also supporting them though. I heard they made a lot of money the day after the Superbowl.

Dunno what the overall long-term effect is.

Personally I love Red lobster, and don't care very much about Beyonce as an artist. I have no problem with her message and am glad she's doing it if it empowers her and other black individuals, but it's not going to affect my approach to RL.

(Anonymous) 2016-02-24 08:38 am (UTC)(link)
Actually, Red Lobster saw a 33% sales spike after Beyonce mentioned it in her song.

I will forever be amused by the "The Superbowl is a family event!" comments. Since when?

And I loved the comments I saw from people complaining about a political message being "shoved down their throat" or being "forced" to watch this. I wasn't aware so many people's remote controls were broken, or they were strapped down to their chairs and couches "Clockwork Orange"-style that night.
