I've seen people remark before that they'd probably raise some eyebrows if they were called the Junior Jihadists. Still, the Crusaders are so far back in time that people can get away with sanitizing them, like Vikings or the Shinsengumi. (Anonymous) 2016-02-26 12:09 am (UTC)(link)Even if we claim that the Crusaders were way back in history, I don't think it's good to erase the fact that Christianity has its own crazy religious-militant past, but even as a reference, it doesn't make sense!
They're not fighting to protect anything, they're not fighting FOR anything! They're searching for something!Conceptually, this should not be a 'crusade' anyway, even for the way 'crusade' is used in other contexts.
if they were called the "Cutie Mark Vikings" it would be stupid too. It's a nonsensical association.
Re: op
(Anonymous) 2016-02-26 05:14 pm (UTC)(link)Crusading, crusaders, etc seeped into colloquial use a long, long, LONG time ago. That's what happens with language. Phrases get absorbed and sanitised. People say things like 'don't be such a grammar nazi' all the time and surely that history is far more recent and relevant to today than the fucking Crusades.
Just... get some perspective for gods sake.
