There's only two genders and if you don't have dysphoria you're not trans.

/mic drop

I don't have a problem with you thinking this but if you think it's a mic drop worthy statement that's hilarious

What about two-spirit people, hijras, and others that have historically been called "third gender" (and existed looooooong before the internet was a thing)?

No no anon, the mic was dropped. We must respect ayrt's manufactured drama

nayrt

but there's a difference between identities, and things that are objectively real.

This just in: intersex people are not real! Also neither are XXY, XYY, XXXY and other chromosomal abnormalities.

Re: Gender thread

That has to do with sex, not gender. There are intersex people who identify as male and intersex people who identify as female.

Re: Gender thread

I've known two intersex people over my life and in each case they identified as one gender. AFAIK that's pretty much the norm for most people who are intersex?

ayrt

that's not really my point? Of course those things objectively exist.

Any number of "identities", like Two-Spirit, no matter how historical, are just man-made identities like anything else.

I generally agree because I don't see the purpose of special-snowflake identities.

but what about intersex people. People who physically are intersex. If gender identity isn't something they consciously think about (fuck I'm cis and my gender isn't something I go out of my way to think about either) who decides what they are?

Gotta agree with sense here.

Eunuchs were treated in multiple cultures as another gender.

don't drop the mic, they're fucking expensive

Let's just establish that I am not genderqueer, nor have I ever known anyone who was openly genderqueer. The thing I can't figure out is why people think someone would want to pretend they're genderqueer. Does that sound fun to you? Does having people roll their eyes and tell you genderqueer isn't a thing sound fun?

I guess I understand when it's a teenager saying they're genderqueer. If a teen came out to me as genderqueer I would be supportive, but I also would not be the least surprised if it turned out they were just trying it on. However, there are plenty of adult people out there who identify as genderqueer, and it seems pretty ridiculous to assume every single one of them is just doing it for social justice points or whatever.
