You realise that for various historical reasons, usually things like wars and major migrstions, age gaps were quite normal in relationships. It's only the last twenty years or so that anything but peer to peer relationships have become something to be weirded out by. (People may have gossiped before, but they didn't hit this sort of skeeved out judgemental. )

that's because back in the day, before the time of modern medicine, women's lifespans tended to be much shorter than men's (because of childbirth and complications of childbirth) so it was common for older men, who could still reproduce, to seek out younger women. if she were closer to his own age, he would outlive her by a long shot in most cases.

arranged marriages were also more common in those days and women tended to be more dependent on men financially. an older man would probably be more financially stable than a younger one. so it made sense for them back then.

lol, no. that has been disproven many times over. arranged marriages were different sometimes, but then these were often not even "consumated".

If you mean in the Middle Ages, then maybe. Large age gaps weren't as common as people seem to think, and when very young women (or girls) were married to older men, it was usually a political match and not generally consummated until she was considered of age. There are exceptions to this, of course, notably Margaret Beaufort (mother to England's King Henry VII) who was married at age 12 to a man twice her age, and who was pregnant by age 13. That, of course, mostly applies to the rich. Peasants didn't necessarily have big age gaps between husband and wife, because there was little need for political matches.

But of course, ayrt didn't specify what time period or even what country so you can't possibly say their comment was disproven. It's too vague to be proven OR disproven.

No, actually much more recently, like aftee every military conflict when all the young men go off to war and only some of them come back. Mass death really throws a wrench in pier to pier relationahips.
