Snape *is* an awful person.

Why would he even date Hermione, when he would bag on her for being a "know-it-all" and then indirectly insulted her teeth and made her cry?

That's not even touching the way he shat on Harry and Neville.

Snape was a hero who died to save the wizarding world. Harry named his son in part after him as dedication to his bravery and selflessness. Check yourself.

Harry's an idiot. This seems to be the one universally accepted truth in Snape fandom except when it comes to Harry naming his kid, which makes no sense because that is like the major example of his idiocy, but hey I guess if it benefits Snape who cares?

*sa disclaimer here that I don't actually think Harry's an idiot, but that Albus Severus did feel like one of his typically, if not most, short-sighted decisions and I love how people are allowed to call him out on every other short-sighted decision except that one.

So you're probably never going to see this but…

THANK YOU.

Seriously, why do people never get that Harry has a history of forgiving the less unsavory aspects of people, especially those who helped "La Resistance"?

Snape saved Harry's life, so Harry's going to feel some gratitude, albeit misplaced. Albus Dumbledore also did some shitty things to Harry, but he still named his son Albus Severus.

Some people like couples with shitty, bullying dynamics, I guess. I mean, I ship some pretty awful couples myself, though I admit I cannot see the appeal in Snape/Hermoine. It really would just be about Snape being a horrible bully and constantly belittling/ignoring her, and I think Hermoine would be miserable. Not to mention the fact that she's a kid and he's a much older teacher.

Why would [character X] date [character Y]? 90% of the time there is no reason in canon, but people ship it anyway.

"Why would he even date Hermione, when he would bag on her for being a "know-it-all" and then indirectly insulted her teeth and made her cry?"

Do you think people should only ship characters who are dating in canon? Because I don't think that's how fandom and shipping works, tbh. I don't read or write for this fandom but even I can imagine a scenario where Snape apologizes for being a giant dick to her, they become friends, discover a mutual passion, etc. And if I can imagine that, I'm sure someone who's actually IN the Harry Potter fandom has already thought of it.

You can imagine that scenario, sure, but it sounds absurdly out-of-character for Snape. Which is basically what this potential pairing calls for, if one insists on making it a cute, fluffy ship.
