Re: Twitter trust and safety council

I think he's had it coming for years, but that was as good a time as any.

So what you're saying is that Milo does not deserve the right to express his opinions because... why exactly?

Re: Twitter trust and safety council

He has the right to express his opinions. In fact, he's continuing to express them right now! It's harassment I have a problem with, regardless of the target.

Re: Twitter trust and safety council

(Anonymous) 2016-03-02 01:56 am (UTC)(link)
So you think his statement qualifies as harassment?

Re: Twitter trust and safety council

(Anonymous) 2016-03-02 02:03 am (UTC)(link)
Given his posting history, which is full of harassment and incitement, encouragement and condoning of harassment, it certainly wasn't him inviting someone over to milk and fucking cookies.

"You deserve to be harassed" isn't harassment in and of itself, no, but it's not the smartest thing to say on a site that's campaigning against harassment and saying it wants folks to stop harassing each other. Especially given that the poster was saying that his followers were currently harassing them. Openly approving rule-breaking by other posters will get you at least a mod warning on many sites.

But that's his whole shtick. Do you not see the irony here? His entire platform is that people have become too easily offended. Do you not think he might have a teeny-weeny bit of a point there, despite being an Evil Conservative Asshole?

Re: Twitter trust and safety council

No, his entire platform is that abuse and harassment victims are liars and whiners who should just shut up. You're not gonna make a martyr out of him.

Re: Twitter trust and safety council

(Anonymous) 2016-03-02 02:30 am (UTC)(link)
I think you and I have a different idea of what constitutes "abuse" and "harassment." I don't include people being mean to each other on the internet.

You're not gonna make a martyr out of him.

Way to miss the entire point of this conversation, which is not about Milo at all.

For reference, my idea of harassment: http://m.imgur.com/a/USROb

In my day we called that wank. That was the price of having an internet where we could freely express ourselves. Some people were inevitably assholes to each other, and if it got to be too much, we turned off the computer and took a walk. We didn't try to change or silence everyone else for the sake of our hurt feelings because we recognized that this posed a threat to the freedom we enjoyed.

Re: Twitter trust and safety council

(Anonymous) 2016-03-02 03:25 am (UTC)(link)
So what, you're some kind of Fandom Grandma? Gonna tell us whippersnappers we're all too lazy? Go fuck yourself.

Re: Twitter trust and safety council

(Anonymous) 2016-03-02 03:31 am (UTC)(link)
Not too lazy. Too sensitive.

Go fuck yourself.

Out of curiosity, would you classify that as harassment, too?

Re: Twitter trust and safety council

(Anonymous) 2016-03-02 07:21 am (UTC)(link)
NAYRT I would consider every comment you've made in this thread to be harassment. Go away.

Re: Twitter trust and safety council

(Anonymous) 2016-03-02 08:38 pm (UTC)(link)
NAYRT, and dear God you are too delicate to be on the internet. Go away yourself.

Re: Twitter trust and safety council

(Anonymous) 2016-03-02 12:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Question: Do you seriously believe Milo doesn't receive a ton of messages that could be counted as harassment?

Re: Twitter trust and safety council

(Anonymous) 2016-03-02 05:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Don't you understand? Those are *justified*. Just like telling me to go fuck myself is justified because expressing a dissenting opinion = harassment.

Re: Twitter trust and safety council

[personal profile] feotakahari 2016-03-02 05:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Then ban those assholes.

Re: Twitter trust and safety council

(Anonymous) 2016-03-02 02:02 am (UTC)(link)
Your concern trolling is unwarranted. Milo wasn't banned from Twitter. His account was simply unverified, meaning it lost that special little badge that mostly go to celebrities and people whose opinion on things like music or fashion matter. He can still post, he can still express his opinion. He's just throwing a tantrum because Twitter has decided his frequent rule-breaking means he can't have his e-penis symbol.

Re: Twitter trust and safety council

(Anonymous) 2016-03-02 02:12 am (UTC)(link)
What rules did Milo break? Oh, that's right! Twitter won't say.

And Robert Stacy McCain? What rules did he break to get banned? Oh, that's right! Twitter won't say.

This is not about Milo or Stacy. This is about a double standard of permitting some "harmful" speech while banning others. So yes, consider this diehard liberal concerned, and call it trolling if you like.

Re: Twitter trust and safety council

(Anonymous) 2016-03-02 02:35 am (UTC)(link)
I don't believe for a single solitary second that you're a "diehard liberal." You are a concern troll. Look it up.

Re: Twitter trust and safety council

(Anonymous) 2016-03-02 02:37 am (UTC)(link)
And I don't believe you're a liberal, either, so we're even.

Re: Twitter trust and safety council

(Anonymous) 2016-03-02 03:22 am (UTC)(link)
Of course I'm not a fucking liberal. I'm a leftist. There's a difference.

Re: Twitter trust and safety council

(Anonymous) 2016-03-02 03:29 am (UTC)(link)
Ah, that explains it. Anyone who isn't a "leftist" must be a right-winger, right? Black and white.

Re: Twitter trust and safety council

(Anonymous) 2016-03-02 08:19 am (UTC)(link)
You must've needed a jetpack to make that leap of logic.
