You know I think I've put my finger on the big reason I find campaigning for mens rights absurd. It's not just that men have all the rights to begin with, although that's in there, it the campaigning for them part thats really ridiculous. Men don't ask for rights, they take them. Men don't ask for permission to ne be raped, men don't ask for permission to hit their wives and girlfriends, men don't ask to be allowed rights, they just take them. The idea of men in the men's right movement seems stupid to me, and the idea of women in the mens rights movement makes me think these women don't understand men.

ok rad!fem

(Anonymous) 2016-03-03 12:37 am (UTC)(link)
I'm not even a feminist, let alone a radical.

ok rad!fem

(Anonymous) 2016-03-03 12:42 am (UTC)(link)
You think a redfem would ever be able to type the words "I'm not a feminist" without bursting into flames? That's like the ultimate betrayal of their self identity.

(Anonymous) 2016-03-03 01:15 am (UTC)(link)
*psst* rad!fem isn't a radfem, it's an antifeminist troll

Nah, radfem isn't this rational.

(Anonymous) 2016-03-03 02:57 am (UTC)(link)
rad!fem is a troll. not actually a feminist. it's not about rationality, it's about stirring up wank.

(Anonymous) 2016-03-03 12:36 am (UTC)(link)
I can't tell much difference between feminism and the MRM. They're both cults of victimhood.

(Anonymous) 2016-03-03 12:38 am (UTC)(link)
You're not wrong. But atleast victimhood has been a part of feminine identities since the beginning. The idea of it being masculine to be a victim? That's shit.

(Anonymous) 2016-03-03 12:46 am (UTC)(link)
But atleast victimhood has been a part of feminine identities since the beginning.

Would you elaborate on this?

(Anonymous) 2016-03-03 12:48 am (UTC)(link)
Women are often treat like victims and a woman acting like a victim does not make her less of a woman. A man acting like a victim does make him less of a man.

/yawn
Move along, wannabe radfem troll, you are boring.

(Anonymous) 2016-03-03 12:39 am (UTC)(link)
You all might want to start getting new names to call people who think the MRM is dumb. Some of us aren't even feminist.

(Anonymous) 2016-03-03 12:43 am (UTC)(link)
So what do you identify as then? I'm legitimately interested.

(Anonymous) 2016-03-03 12:46 am (UTC)(link)
I don't. I mean, I have no gender related politics. I guess "Self interested" would cover it? I support what ever politics benefit me best.

(Anonymous) 2016-03-03 12:53 am (UTC)(link)
I'm trying to figure out why a person with no gender-related politics would come off as so invested in the MRM.

Frankly your post makes me think you don't understand men.

I mean, I concur there's all sort of things wrong in the mens rights movement, but you seem to see men as a monolithic mass, while obviously they're individual human beings.

(Anonymous) 2016-03-03 12:41 am (UTC)(link)
That's fair. I suppose I'm not so much talking about men as masculinity. Masculinity can be lost in all sorts of ways, and pretending you're a victim and need society's permission to be masculine is one of them
kallanda_lee: (Default)

[personal profile] kallanda_lee 2016-03-03 12:47 am (UTC)(link)
I think that's a tricky thing. I do believe there is such a thing as toxic masculinity, and that is does affect those men who do not adhere to those standards of masculinity. (look at how many insults are based at undermining masculinity, implying you're gay, or feminine, or weak).

I'm not sure that would fall under the mra movement, but guys complaining about that do have a point.

I think "society" is another one of those monolithic terms. I'm pretty sure that no matter what you do, people will criticize, it's just the nature of things.

I'm not a fan of victimhood cults in general, they tend to focus on wallowing in things rather than fixing things, so yeah.

(Anonymous) 2016-03-03 12:37 am (UTC)(link)
No one cares about how stupid you are.

(Anonymous) 2016-03-03 01:19 am (UTC)(link)
What.

(Anonymous) 2016-03-03 02:37 am (UTC)(link)
"Men don't ask for permission to ne be raped"

is that supposed to say "not be raped"?

because go fuck yourself
