How much disposable income do you have?

(Anonymous) 2016-03-05 10:21 pm (UTC)(link)
And do you consider yourself well off?

Re: How much disposable income do you have?

I can pay rent on time 3 months out of every four, and I can pay my bills even if they are a month in arrears. I guess I'm doing pretty damn good by today's standards.

Yes, I'd say that I'm well off. I can save at least some extra money every month after paying my bills and I've paid off my mortgage, so I'm now debt-free.

Re: How much disposable income do you have?

I spent a year working and saving every penny that didn't go toward rent or groceries -- and those were only what I couldn't find at the food bank. Thanks to that, I have enough saved up to live for about 6mo, in case I can't get a new work permit and have to live off savings while I wait for another option to process. I'd come out with ~$50 after the fact, but I'd say I'm pretty comfortable.

When we figure in my student loans, however, we see that I'm roughly $90k in the hole.

So depending how you look at it, I'm good or I'm hosed! :D

You have $90K in student loans and have trouble feeding yourself?

DA

Yeah, their loan load is really light. Welcome to the new normal btw. Entry pay for graduates, even business professionals, is getting lower, advancement getting slower, student loan costs are rising far out of line of inflation, but not as far ahead of inflation as rent or/and property costs. The OP is on the luckier side of that student loan/food curve there. Not that it probably feels like it to them.

In terms of return on investment, it sounds like you'd do better these days to go to tech/trade school.

I have $0 income so therefor I have $0 disposable income. I don't consider myself well off.

Any month where I don't end up in the hole, is a month I'm in the 1%.

I scrape by most months, and I have a steady job even if it is entry level. Better than most, all things considered.

lol zero.

However, I am fairly well off in terms of assets.

I've got assets but very little income, in world terms I'm massively well off but I worry about my future.

I worry about money almost constantly and have a suicide plan in place in case I stop being able to meet monthly payments and get evicted. I often have to skip more than one meal in a row in order to meet rent. It doesn't look like I'll have any discretionary income, and certainly no prospect of savings, any time soon. I doubt I'll live through the next four years.

I'm sorry that you're having such a hard time, anon. I don't know what country you're in, but I hope you can find a crisis or suicide hotline to help you out. Hugs if you want them.

Not much. My job pays crap, but I try to set aside a percentage of my check so I can have some spending money. It's usually about fifteen to twenty dollars a month. I'm definitely not well off.

Re: How much disposable income do you have?

(Anonymous) 2016-03-06 12:04 am (UTC)(link)
Anywhere between $100-$300 a month tops if I had to guess? I should be saving it but I tend to spend it more often than not. I have a savings account now so setting money aside will be easier.

I don't make much, but my debt and bills are also low. The plus side of not having a car is not having the costs of a car!

If I had a legit emergency or lost my job I would be totally fucked though. So no, I'm not well-off at all.

Around US$10 to US$15 if I'm lucky.

Not rich by any means, but I'm not struggling.

My husband and I both went to state-supported schools, worked while we were students, and paid tuition as we went. We both have decent jobs in our field, thought it took us a few years to get them. We live in a low cost of living area and don't have children. We don't know how people with children are getting by on our salaries, but for the two of us it's ample and allows us a luxury every now and then.

my family is rich so money the one thing I don't have to worry about.

If I absolutely had to, I could drop about $100,000 immediately.

Yes.

Reasonably. I have a good job, and I travel abroad often for vacations. I just bought my own condo (debt-free), and plan to sublet to my current roommate because we like living together so much. Technically I won't even need a real job at that point.

However, as well as I'm doing now, all that can change very quickly and I have to admit I haven't thought a lot about organizing my finances in the long run.

I'm nowhere near well off, but I have a few extra bucks in my account, enough to buy the occasional video game or some other small luxury item I see. Yay for picking up a night job!

Disposable depends on fortnightly circumstances - sometimes I can have as much as $150. I do think however a lot of the time I have that because Mum handles a number of things.

I don't consider myself well-off because I am on a pension.
