Whatever you don, don't use a straw for a few weeks or you'll get tooth rot!

Weeks? D: My info sheet just says avoid, and sort of hinted at "while still bleeding", but otherwise gives no time frame for that.

I mean, I'm scared to drink through a straw, or sneeze, or eat, or anything really, but... wow. This is an astounding lack of information from my expert dental team.

LOL, are you SERIOUSLY prioritizing the word of some idiot teenager on the internet over your dental team? Are you seriously deciding that your dental team is shit because some teenager gave you a context-less, fear-mongering, one-sentence warning that doesn't match up with your expert dental team's advice?

Please, stop.

Do what your dental team says, and don't listen to some teenager called "mrs_don_draper" you exchanged a few words with on the internet.

My dental team said nothing specifically. That's the whole point of me asking the question in the first place, to see what other people's experiences were. If you have no experience with the subject, kindly move on. There's a nice Snape thread you could be trolling.

I don't think they're correct. I was told that it was okay to drink from a straw a bit less than a week after getting my wisdom teeth removed and I've heard the same thing from several other people who have had the same procedure (and to my knowledge, none of us used the same dentist so either a bunch of dentists don't know what they're talking about or the user you're replying to had some kind of unique circumstance that caused their dentist to think that weeks were more appropriate. I'm guessing that your own dentist would have informed you if this were the case for you)

Yeah I think mrs_don_draper's case was unique, but at the same time, it means something bad could go wrong. And what concerns me is I really didn't get a time frame for this. What it says on the sheet is:

"DO NOT spit or suck through a straw"

The only point of reference for time is that it's under the heading "Bleeding and Wound Care". I'm not sure at what point it stops being a wound.

Yeah, I was told no straws for 2 weeks. A friend of mine used one since all she could eat were smoothies and she got the rot. And, unlike what the anon said, I'm not a teenager, nor am I telling you to avoid your dentist's advice. And I'm also not trying to scare you. I just don't want you to go through something painful. I hope you feel better soon, Anon.

No hard feelings. That anon was pretty much insulting both our intelligences. Thanks for replying.
