"They are so forcefully ungaying Callie that the incoming Melissa George character, hired as a lesbian Sawyer to Hahn and Callie's Jack and Kate, got caught in the straightwash, went into a straightspin, and ended up taking a straightdive right into the straightway. She's so straight now that they're going to name her character Isaiah Washington."
I'm glad to hear she has a girlfriend again.

Personally I think they were clear right from the thing with Hahn that Callie was bi, even though they didn't use the words until a few seasons later. That was what broke up her and Hahn: Hahn realized she was a lesbian, Callie didn't have quite the same eyeopening experience and slept with Mark to see if there was a difference and their wasn't with her. Hahn couldn't deal with the cheating or with the fact that Callie was only "sort of a lesbian."
And after Hahn, Callie never went back to being straight. Most of her partners since have been women, just with the occasional man inbetween.

(Anonymous) 2016-03-09 12:41 am (UTC)(link)Those are actually the only current shows with LGBT characters (oh and Modern Family, but Mitch and Cam kinda suck as people) I'm watching. If you want to go back aways, I really loved Regina on Out of Practice.

Re: LGBT representation in current media
I really just can't stand the "token gay", which is such a frequent thing in shows these days.
Re: LGBT representation in current media
It occurs to me that a lot of the media I consume has canonically queer characters only in minor roles if at all. I like the nonchalant way some things I like approach queer characters and relationships but very few of them feature them in major roles. :/

Poussey from OITNB
clearly i like my characters to be fucks ups with lots of baggage, also the gay being pretty secondary to everything else about them.
i can't relate to perfect happy gay characters.
