I dislike Stone enough at this point that I like Ananth Hirsh [Panagariya] significantly less since he was willing to work with her, and even Yuko Ota, by association.

(Anonymous) 2016-03-10 12:08 am (UTC)(link)
^^^^ all of this.

(Anonymous) 2016-03-10 01:56 am (UTC)(link)
A fair point. I don't necessarily feel the same re: Ananth and Yuko, but it's a valid reason to give pause, considering how successful they've been in this business.

didn't she already skip out on doing a comic with them? something about spelling bees?

Um, your lack of forgiveness (for something that supposedly has very little to do with you in the first place, and almost certainly was not done against you personally) leading to you missing out on things you might enjoy is basically your problem, not hers. Or the rest of us'.

Do some kind of cleansing ritual that makes sense to you and get over it. The sun is shining and the comics are good looking.

this.

That whole drama was like... sometimes over engagement with fans is bad. They get clingy and weird and take shit personally. Combined with an artist who seemed to have some kind of anxiety issue, that was a horrible situation.

Dude, she took money for a product she didn't deliver on and screwed over her publisher in the process. I think anon had a right to be at least suspicious of her.

(Anonymous) 2016-03-10 12:27 am (UTC)(link)
I think Stone should be given another chance because people change and all that (I mean, what happened was shitty but it seems like overkill for her to be blacklisted and shamed until the end of time for it. Move on, folks), but how was what happened an accident beyond her control? It seemed like she was the one who screwed up there

(Anonymous) 2016-03-10 12:29 am (UTC)(link)
DA

Yeah, especially as it wasn't the first time she'd cut and run. She let her fans think she'd fucking died, and she dropped her publisher in the shit after they took a chance on her, with no fucking explanation.

One of my friends was really excited to see that she was making a new webcomic, but I just couldn't feel the same way. :( I've followed a lot of webcomics that were abandoned in their run, but something about HiNaBN hurt me more than the others.

(Anonymous) 2016-03-10 12:40 am (UTC)(link)
Don't a lot of webcomics get discontinued? Can someone elaborate why this artist gets so much hate for it?

(Anonymous) 2016-03-10 01:11 am (UTC)(link)
I think her comic was in the midst of being published, with a lot of pre-orders involved, till she suddenly disappeared and never really offered an explanation and left the publisher in hot water trying to fix everything. That's what I heard anyway.

She built a pretty solid fanbase and her deviantart page had lots of art for future parts of the series. It was the sort of thing that got you really invested in how amazing things could get.

Towards the end she was selling the first volume of the webcomic through a small publisher. There were a bunch of problems with production and distribution. The fandom got a bit nutty and Stone just cut all communication. No warning on the webcomic page, no more posts on her deviantart.

I can see why OP would be reluctant to get too invested in any of her future work in case something like this happens again. It's not a blacklist worthy offense by any means though.

I can see why. Never read her comics but from what I heard yeah, I'd be pretty wary too.

(Anonymous) 2016-03-10 01:55 am (UTC)(link)
Same.

(Anonymous) 2016-03-10 02:02 am (UTC)(link)
I didn't even care about HINABN, but after what she did, I don't care to read anything by her ever.

Same. I eventually got my refund but I won't touch her new work with a 10foot pole. Won't even look at it. She never even apologised or explained, just ripped people and a company off.

jfc this secret and the comments for it.

dudes, stone's publisher fucked HER over. they weren't paying her and assumed rights over her work. her contract probably completely forbid her to talk about it, too, and she probably stopped working on it altogether bc of the legal issues until her contract is/was up.

she was a young artist who got fucked over by a publisher, which happens WAY TOO FUCKING OFTEN. have some god damn mercy, good christ

(Anonymous) 2016-03-10 09:43 pm (UTC)(link)
That makes a lot of sense actually.

This kind of shit is why I look to self-pub, regardless of all the shit talk said about self pubbers.

Maaaaaaaaaan if it weren't for the whole scamming fiasco would HiNaBN ever have gotten to this level of fandom sob story/nostalgia wank fodder. It was firmly in my "I will read this but mainly just to keep up with what fandom's into these days" category of webcomics.

(Anonymous) 2016-03-11 02:58 pm (UTC)(link)
I still don't know what the full story is on what happened to HINABN...so many conflicting stories and no proof that I've seen.

I like her art still, but the new stuff just hasn't resonated with me like HINABN did.
