"Beat around the bush" because of one time when I was trying to figure out how we put together such a phrase, all I could come up with was it was a sexual reference. Like, a guy having sex with a woman, but not quite actually penetrating her. idk I was convinced for a long time that's what it meant. I am pretty sure someone told me a different origin of the phrase but I can't remember and the phrase still bugs me. lol

Also, curiosity killed the cat, because I like cats.

Probably to do with hunting. Beaters used to try and scare game out of the undergrowth.
