Pairings you used to be obsessed with

(Anonymous) 2016-03-12 11:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Not pairings that you were soured on or changed your mind about, but just, a pairing that you used to be obsessed with, write/read/reblog lots of meta and fanfic and fanart for, consume and/or produce large quantities of fanworks for in short periods of time....

And then, after a while...you stopped. You still like the pairing, you would still agree with your opinions on it from back then if you were asked, but you just don't think or talk or read about it anymore. Just the "fannish obsession" flame went out.

This happens to me with most of my ships tbh, it's not that I stop liking them, just that my interest eventually wanes and I stop actively looking for fic(and then years later I'll get the urge to read some and will be obsessed again for a while until it passes). I just have a fickle nature.

Harry/Draco will always have a special place in my heart, but many of the classics are gone at this point, and most of what's being produced now is drivel.

I loved Matt/Mello myself.

That chapters/episode with the handcuffs inspired so many Light/L fanworks.

I used to be way, way into Harry/Hermione. I still like it, but I'm not that into Potter anymore, and if I'm reading fics I tend to prefer the Trio dynamic to pairing any two of them off.

I used to be way into Clint/Natasha. Now if I read MCU fics it is Steve/Bucky or Steve/Thor.

I used to be really into Doctor/Donna, but the character bashing bothered me and I became much more interested in Eleven and Twelve and not so interested in reading Ten fics.

I used to be really into many Buffy pairings. I read a lot of Buffy porn. But I haven't read any Buffy fics in a while.

Harry/Hermione stopped being fun right around the time Rowling admitted we were right all along about it. It took oll the fun out of it.

I haven't really even thought about Bagginshield for a long time, but now that you reminded me, I really had quite a blast during that stage when I was totally obsessed with that fandom. A large proportion of the fanworks were shit, but there was so much really quite excellent fanart and meta.

Yup, I was way into it when the first movie came out. I still like the idea, but I don't really read movie fics anymore.

Hahaah a lot of old Final Fantasy stuff. Back when Squaresoft was still Squaresoft.

Sephiroth/Cloud comes to mind lol.

Man, I really stopped liking Final Fantasy after FF8.

Dresden/Marcone from Dresden Files. I was really into it for a while, between Death Masks and Small Favor mostly, but I haven't really thought about them or looked fanfic up in ages.

I was also really, really into Picard/Q for years, but these days if I'm reading Trek fic it's TOS or DS9 rather than TNG.

Will Graham/Hannibal Lecter. When the show and the fandom got (to my threshold of) way over the top, I just lost interest.

I was crazy over Mohinder/Sylar before the second season of Heroes. Their dynamic during their road trip was *everything* to me and hit all of my buttons. All Of Them. Then...the second season happened and....sigh/ugh.

I used to be very active in the BSG fandom and shipped Kara/Leoben and Lee/Laura, but the finale left such a bad taste in my and most of the fandom's mouths that we just drifted apart afterwards.

And this pains me to say it, but....my OTP of OTPs: Mulder/Scully. At some point I went from seeing their partnership as this beautiful meeting of complementary equals to one in which Mulder took Scully for granted a lot, and constantly dragged her around on his crazy quests, and pushed her hard to change her beliefs, while she never pulled any of that shit on him. Now, seeing the promos for the series reboot put the last nail in the coffin, because they made me feel like, I don't know who that is, but that's not Scully. :(

I used to ship Ranma-X-Ryoga like burning, Ranko-x-Ryouga if I'm honest. I've given up caring though, the Ranma fandom hasn't produced anything worthwhile in the last five years, at least. All the comms have all dried up too. There is no conversation to be had, and tumblr fandom just hysterically screams about it all being problematic.

Stucky.
The fandom just burned me out, though I hope taking a break and Civil War will rekindle my flame.

Scully/Mulder is the main one that's like this for me. I'm not sure I'll ever ship a pairing more deeply or passionately than I shipped them. But eventually the flame did go out. I still love them, just not in the same way I once did.

(Though admittedly I deny the existence of IWTB and Season 10; lalala didn't happen, not canon, lalala.)

I go from show to show, pairing to pairing. It's just that new things catch my attention. Some of my previous obsessions: Blair/Jim, Hotch/Reid, Gibbs/DiNozzo, Grissom/Warrick. And I'll still read fic for them and very rarely write something.

Seishiro/Subaru from Tokyo Babylon.

Any pairing from the Ace Attorney games. I still re-play them from time to time, but my interest in shipping dried up with the kink meme.

I don't always love something obsessively but get bored after awhile without fail. I do sometimes experience a resurgence of interest though. Stucky ate up my life for much of last year, but I fell out of it sometime in the fall... yet even watching the CW trailer now I can feel it coming back.

All of them.

Re: Pairings you used to be obsessed with

Johnlock. I still enjoy the pairing, but I really had to divorce myself of the fandom to save myself my sanity. It's much better this way, but I suppose I miss the flailing a bit.

That said, with the distance I've got now, some of the meta that pops up on my dash from time to time is just embarrassingly off the point...

SasuNaru, Dean/Cas, Yugi/Yami among others I can't think of just now.

SasuNaru I still read fic for occasionally and like to have as a background pairing, but I haven't searched anything for the others in years.

Mulder and Scully. I was an avid fic reader back when the show was on and was always on the lookout with each new episode for any hints of romance. I still adore them and ship them hard, but I don't think I've read a Mulder/Scully fic in 15 years and I was far more chill* about watching them in the new series.
