People texting/using their phones when they're "with other people and should be socializing." For all you know, someone's sister's in labor or their father's having open heart surgery and they're keeping tabs.

Although it was a little unnerving when I went to the cafeteria of a college recently, and 70% of the kids were looking at their phones. But honestly, when I was in school half the time people were reading their textbooks or listening to their iPod nanos. Even when they were with friends. It's just a new thing to be distracted by.

Same. This used to cause a rage-stroke in me, but then I too got a smartphone.

Sometimes, you get a very important text in the middle of a hang-out. Other times, people are just boring. Them's the breaks.

Once as I was walking into a library, I took my phone out of my purse to silence it and this old guy walking out past me shook his head and grumbled about "kids always on their phones." (Also, I was 35 at the time.)
