Well I wouldn't say she's terrible, but I don't think she's very good at it. The world of Harry Potter mostly worked in a relatively small sphere, i.e. Hogwarts but even then there were plenty of inconsistencies and things that didn't make sense. The more she expands the wizarding world, the more the universe falls apart. So yeah, I'm not surprised the North America thing was bungled.
