I can understand feeling resentful about that. Worrying about fandom cliques is such a dumb thing, they always disappear after the fandom's heydey ends. It's a ridiculous thing to hurt a friend over.

Probably should have photocopied the page and given one to anyone that wanted one though.

Why? They didn't take something that belonged to anyone else or was a official part of the gathering; they took something that was theirs. And now their supposed to poll everyone who passes all "Yo, did you write on this? Let me spend my money to make you a copy!"

I'd say OP would be being generous but by no means required to bring the paper home, scan it and put it online for anybody who wanted it, but given the way fandom turned on them, I sure as shit wouldn't give a fuck.

It would have been a nice thing to do. You can make a dozen copies of something for like a dollar. They wouldn't exactly be starving because they made copies. If they were that hard up for cash someone probably would have chipped in. It's not like people that can afford conventions are usually in the bottom socioeconomic class.

OP here

Actually I would have been delighted to make copies for the author. I was never given that choice or opportunity. My 'thief' status was set in stone by my friends betrayal and the author's friends' outrage, and I was ostracised immediately. All this despite the fact that the paper was on a clipboard intended for general use by con-goers to leave messages. It was going in the trash after the con - I asked the hotel staff.
