What's the strangest thing you ever bought...

(Anonymous) 2016-03-16 12:34 am (UTC)(link)
...because of fandom?

Inspired by secret #15.

A powerbar, because of Rodney Mckay.

Lilo and Stitch, Ukulele

I'm looking at cello because of Sherlock but all sources say 10 years study minimum and I go nope.

I don't know how strange it is, but I picked up a 16gig Iron Man thumb drive at Best Buy today.

It's not even the first Iron Man thumb drive I own.

I also collect bad werewolf movies. And good ones. There are so many bad ones, though.

SA

Oh, and.

A Robert Downey Jr movie I will never, ever watch.

Less Than Zero.

I just can't even.

RDJ looks so young in it, wow.
Haven't seen it.

I haven't seen that, but I've always wanted to because I'm a big Andrew McCarthy fan.

I can understand why you wouldn't want to watch it as an RDJ fan, given the subject matter & his own personal history.

Wes Craven's Cursed? Tell me you've got that one.

I own a copy I haven't watched because I caught it on TV years ago. It's so bad, but it's so much fun.

(Also, I'd throw Teen Wolf Too in there, but I've seen it so many times, I genuinely enjoy it, even while actively acknowledging that it's objectively bad.)

Ha, I do! I picked it up for something like five bucks at Fry's Electronics. It wasn't nearly as terrible as I expected, actually.

...I really need to put Teen Wolf on my list. I bet I can get that bundled with Teen Wolf Too.

That's actually how my copy's packaged- as a bundle.

I love Teen Wolf Too, I think it's great, campy fun, but Teen Wolf just doesn't do it for me. I admit part of that might be that I'd just gotten into a fight the first & only time I ever watched it, but honestly it didn't make much of an impression. It's just kind of eh.

I collect werewolf movies as well (do you have a copy of the Werewolf TV series from the 80s?) but they're not the weirdest thing.

The weirdest thing I've bought because of fandom was in 1995, when I bought the expensive and distinctive sword Richie was given at the end of the Highlander episode that Sheena Easton guest-starred on.

I will have to find that TV series, clearly. Apparently I missed it when it was airing. Thanks for the heads-up!

I bought a used VHS from the video store because the guy on the cover looked a lot like David Soul. I never got around to watching it. :D I'm rather proud of the level of weirdness that shows, tbh.

A giant unfolding Chinese paper lantern. I eventually turned it into a cosplay prop.

It's not so weird. I have a Steve Rogers piggy bank. I keep rare Euro's in it.

A multicolored umbrella, because of Doctor Who.

A sweater with cherries because it reminded me of Molly Hooper. It's cute, but I rarely wear it because it's too twee for me. I do wear it when I'm watching Sherlock though.

Considering what I normally wear, a pair of suede Gucci peep-toe heels, for closet cosplay. Lots of weird stuff for cosplay, including an embroidery machine. Runner up is I bought a pack of daylilies because they had "Jedi" in the name. But then, there're so many daylily cultivars I used to amuse myself by looking up favorite characters to see if they had a daylily named for them. Oh, and sometimes David Austin roses because Shakespeare. And I used to have a Violet Carson because V for Vendetta, but it died and I can't get another one because the only nursery in the US that sold it went out of business. Anyone want to send me a cutting from Australia? (It's also a pretty rose, but I could see why they made up a red version for the movie. For one, I can't see explaining that the rose was named for an obscure actress, so it's not actually violet, it's peachy pink.)

I bought a pair of sandals because the design was the name of one of my favorite characters. They were pretty cheap though.
