What's the last mean-spirited thing you did?

I got into an argument with someone on Tumblr. They wanted Tumblr fandom to be porn free because their 12 year-old sister was on Tumblr.

I reported the 12 year-old and got her banned. (TOS says you have to be 13).

Absolutely shitty, spiteful thing to do. There's no excuse for it. Reporting someone for violating the site rules may not be wrong, but it was done mean-spiritedly.

I can understand your frustrations though.

I absolutely hate, hate, hate when parents, siblings, guardians, etc. act like everyone else has to cater to their needs/the needs of their children, younger siblings, wards, etc.

It's not the internet's job to parent your child. As long as the porn is tagged, it has more right to be on Tumblr than the 12 year old violating the terms of service. Not to mention, I feel like a 12 year old should still be monitored while online anyway, but especially in an instance like this, if you're not gonna do the very least & monitor their online activity, don't overreact & freak out about the internet acting as a safety net to pick up your slack.

Sorry. I just get really frustrated by this mentality. I think the last time I got this heated about it was when Disney redesigned Merida, giving her sparkles, to fit their Makeover Princess line & parents & babysitters were publishing think pieces about how destructive that was because it wasn't true to her character as presented in the movie. GTFO

ALL OF THIS SO HARD.

This. If you're too lazy to put even the slightest bit of effort into monitoring your child and expect everyone else on the internet to do it instead, then you don't have my sympathy.

You did the right thing, for the right reasons.

I love you.

lol. That's the kind of petty that I can get on board with at least

Re: What's the last mean-spirited thing you did?

Nah, you did the right thing. The age limit in the TOS is there to protect children, and this user wanted her sister protected, so you helped them out really. Lol.

You mighy have taken some enjoyment out of it, but I don't think you should feel bad - it's not like you got someone banned from the whole internet, or did something to actually affect someone's quality of life. 12 year old can sign up again with a different name and fake age pretty easily. And the anti-porn user has learnt a lesson about private companies controlling the content and users of their product.

Thank you!

I just saw Deadpool in the cinema and right behind me sat a mother?/grandmother?/aunt? and a ~10 year old boy. She started out with explaining what happened on the screen (the boy didn't speak English), but soon got very halting in her translation. (No big wonder.) It was funny in cringey train-wreck like way (splatter, unicorn scene; just mentioning so you can feel the burn also), but her lack of poster reading comprehension and research did put a damper on my movie night for sure. (I can just hear his "It's a super hero comedy, please, please!" and her Homer Simpson-voiced "Okay".) Next time, too good intentions-lady, get out when the blood reaches the knees: it's not for kids.

I honestly can't remember, which I'd say is a good thing.

I guess I could count the other night when I ignored a phone call from my friend because I was exhausted & just about to head to bed & then ended up staying up hours later anyway.

Told a supervisor of mine about how a different supervisor of mine had a meeting with me about not wanting to share data with supervisor 1.

I could have just let it slide, but she was a dick in probably the biggest way possible to me at the time. And to make matters worse I was dragged into weird political machinations without prior knowledge or ...really even consent so I was pretty pissed off.

Sounds like a shitty workplace. Do those two supervisors just not like each other or is it a bigger issue?

One of my supervisors hates our manager, and keeps on trying to transparently butter me up/ drag me into it by saying things like "I'm really glad you're organising [insert work thing here]" loudly, with meaningful glances. Pisses me off to no end.

Told my cousin what I really thought about her lifestyle because no twenty three year old should still be relying on her mom to wash her clothes and keep her dinner warm, especially when she won't tell her mom why she's staying out until two-three in the morning. I still feel bad about it.

You did the Lord's work. It's one thing to need help, it's another kettle of fish to rely on someone else to do everything for you. The latter is just pathetic.

Re: What's the last mean-spirited thing you did?

(Anonymous) 2016-03-19 04:13 am (UTC)(link)
Nah, don't feel bad. Your cousin needed to hear it, and maybe it was better coming from you, someone who is in her peer group. If she's old enough to be an adult when it comes to curfews, she's more than old enough to do her own laundry. I was washing my own clothes by the time I was 16. Hopefully your cousin takes this on board, otherwise she's going to be one of those spoiled brat semi-adults who can't even feed themselves.

Ripped into my mom and uncle, my mom for running off to buy booze less than a week after I hauled her ass to the ER for dts, and my uncle, for letting her because "it's her choice." Yeah? I'm onto missing my second week of work because I came home on lunch break to find my mom passed out in the park strip a block away. I thought she was dead. Sure, I could move out and wait for her to die, but I'd be homeless and she'd lose the house. How're those for choices, Mr "flying to another state tomorrow?" I'm so fucking tired.

From what you just said, i'm worried your going to tak on too much and ruin your own life. One person can only do so much. I'm not telling you to abandon anybody, but know your limits. And don't take other peoples failings on yourself, as much as you can.

I got cranky at my dog for being underfoot and yelled at her which scared her because she didn't understand I wanted some personal space. I'm sorry puppy :( I still feel bad. Interspecies communication is hard.

Staring impatiently on an ancient elderly couple that couldn't get their giant luggage into the high shelf on the train. Eventually a tiny girl behind me stepped up and heaved it up for them. I didn't realize how shitty I was behaving before that, I was just stressed because I was in for a long trip and wanted to get a seat. Goodbye, large wad of karma points.

I was unable to stop myself from gloating over a moment of being so correct it gave me a tingly feeling of joy.

Not one of my proudest moments.

Except that it was. BECAUSE I WAS RIGHT.

I deliberately gave a woman horrible advice on modifying her dresses because she was being a giant asshole to me, my coworkers, and another customer (who happened to be an South Asian man, cue her holding her nose like something stank and giving him the evil eye and jumping back a mile when he came around the corner). I was just so angry that I had to be polite to this disgusting fucking excuse for a human being that I told her everything she could possibly do wrong and did everything I could to make sure it was as expensive as I could make it in the process.

My colleague was helping out a customer who'd tried out twenty different shoes, all of which she'd said didn't fit quite right. There was a point where he looked at me with desperation in his eyes, and I turned my back and and got to straightening the shelves. Some trainwrecks are too big to involve yourself in.
