Personally, I think it's more awkward when fic writers do try to capture Wodehouse's style, because he was brilliantly inventive and they are doomed to be nothing but his pale imitation.

This so much. I rather read them talking without the slang but in a way that feels natural and having a nice flow to it than with some slang that is forcefully wedged into the sentences. A forced style like this can feel awkward and cringeworthy very fast.

Right? I would hardly expect it to look like Wodehouse no matter what. He was pretty brilliant.
I wrote one fic that was Wodehouse inspired, and that was one of the most difficult things I ever wrote.

I dunno. It's a given that most authors will fail to match Wodehouse, but I like for people to try. Man's reach should exceed his grasp and all that.
