(Anonymous) 2016-03-20 10:59 pm (UTC)(link)Honestly while her parentage is probably going to be an interesting point, most of the Star Wars characters don't have their lineage being a "major, major plot point"
Han Solo's parents? Kenobi's? Padme's?

Rey, on the other hand, has her backstory/family story set up as a more or less important plot point in VII, important enough to throw flashbacks and several very obvious hints that, no matter what it is, that story is important for that character. You don't do those things to just drop them, at least not if you want to keep a semblance of good writing.
Han Solo's parents are irrelevant for the character's development, Obi-Wan is a classic Jedi with very very little contact to his parents (and it is equally unimportant for his development). Padmé's as well. Anakin, however? Major plot point. Luke and Leia? Yup, doubly so in both their cases. Kylo Ren? Hell yes. And in all cases where the parentage is important, they never, ever, take a character from a secondary, EU type canon.
Just imagine how ridiculously flat a reveal like that would fall. Everyone is waiting for the great reveal, and the father is *drumroll* EZRA.
*crickets chirping*
It would sabotage the whole thing.
