I can't speak for others but as for me, on top of being demoralized by the whole nu52 crap and DC's general treatment of the fans...

I got a lot of backlash and headache from the Young Justice cartoon fandom of all places. I'd write for the comics-verse and have cartoon-verse people coming in complaining I wasn't following their canon or trying to 'correct' me like they knew the characters better than I ever would when all they'd ever seen was the cartoon versions.

I still like the old stuff. I just stopped writing for it and moved on to other stuff.

I honestly thought young justice fandom was dead given how it ended. For the most part, I notice batfamily fandom sits in their own corner and follows parts of comic they like and pick and disregard most garbage. Ex: Majority of Jason Todd fans pretend RHATO doesn't exist and Tim fans have summarily erased everything regarding nu52 Tim from their memory.

That's not to say nu52 is bad. Most of it is actually pretty good. The problem is batman comics/lore are a fucking mess and the closest I've seen to rivaling batman fandom in DC comics is Flash/Green Lantern. And they are but a small bunch.

I stopped writing for the fandom before the 2nd season of Young Justice ended. And yes, the Bat-fandom has always been is own little niche inside the main DC umbrella but the same can be said for the X-Men in Marvel, different Final Fantasy titles within that series, etc. And again, picking and choosing parts of canon to keep while discarding others is hardly limited to just this little handful of canons.

I'll have to disagree entirely on the nu52. I feel its total garbage but that's a discussion for another time. Lore in comics in general only looks bad on the surface and its difficulty is blown way out of proportion by people.

I bailed on Green Lantern for a variety of reasons, one of the biggest being the series went to absolute shit after Geoff Johns left. I'm not kidding, it was the sharpest nosedive I'd ever seen and it was pretty gross how they quickly were trying to undo all the parts about Johns' run that got most people into it in the first place. Seeing the Blue Lanterns get shit on not once, but twice was the last straw for me.

That's not even getting into GL:TAS. I won't even go there.

To be fair, the comics have gotten somewhat better over the last couple months -I read storytimes on /co/ if I'm quick enough to catch them-, but it's still often hit-or-miss. Either way, a lot of the appealing elements that helped produce fanwork is no longer there anymore (although Larfleeze currently being MIA is probably a good thing, and I say that as someone who still likes him), from my understanding.
