Maybe it's because Cas lost so many fights early on, but everybody seems to forget he's a fucking warrior angel. He flew into Hell and pulled Dean out while others in his unit died. But no, fandom has to make him a shrinking flower of a nerd.

He lost against more powerful beings, but he was still clearly powerful. That first scene made that clear even if nothing else did. He doesn't understand humanity or human culture, but that isn't the same as being weak. So I really don't get it.

Holy shit, yes. There are a dozen scenes at least which show him as incredibly powerful. I think that the whole "weak Castiel" thing is partially the fault of the writers, who constantly removed his powers, put him up against stronger fighters, or removed him from the show so that the villains could constitute a legitimate threat.

Dean: "Oh no, there's a wendigo in town!"
Cas: "I killed it immediately in 2 seconds."

Then it's just 40 minutes of credits.

Haha, true; Cas at the top of his game would wipe out most threats that might challenge the Winchesters. To keep any kind of suspense, they need to depower him one way or another.
