be annoyed because that money couldve been invested instead of being held by the govt

If you're getting a huge tax return (and it's not because of credits for kids and whatnot), something's screwed up with your work stuff and you need to sort it out with HR.

yep. its nothing to be too happy about. mine's going to be about 3500 this year

Or they're self-employed and get taxed based on previous years' income. It's pretty easy to wind up with a hefty return if you have a really good year followed by one in which you earned less.

(Or sometimes just a really good quarter, ugh.)
