Re: Brussels & Terrorism
They've made their bed, and they have to lie in it. I imagine this'll lead for more cries for more partners in five eyes, and expansion of SSEUR. But the reality is we just can't trust them with it.
Obviously you can offer to have people available to help train and upskill them, but they by all accounts have run investigations borough detectives would be embarrassed to run, let alone federal CT investigations.
The only way it's got this way because of what is for intents and purposes intentional neglect in training, resources, and complacency.

They have failed to dedicate to the necessary increase in their security apparatus in all terms - personnel, working relationships, technologically, and ability, despite the developing nature of the terrorist threat being abundantly clear to the national police and intelligence community and the threat posed by it.
The linked article touches on a few of the key points.

It's incompetence and negligence that's put them into a situation where they can't deal with the terror threat posed.
