A lot of people are asking you why you didn't just let it play (so it got the ratings without your suffering), but I get it. I felt a lot of social pressure to watch this show too, especially in communities (such as my school) where I'm known as a feminist. I don't think there's anything feminist about women/anyone being pressured into a distressing experience regarding rape and abuse just because the zeitgeist demands it and tumblr/upworthy-style "if you don't like/participate in this thing you are EVIL" social (media) pressure.

Also, it's hard not to be a masochist sometimes.

But you deserve to take care of yourself. You did not ask to be a part of the survivors' club. You didn't sign up to be A Survivor. You don't owe anybody jack.

This exactly. Making survivors even more upset and guilty will not help anyone, least of all the people this is allegedly to help.

With the exception of performative assholes like the radfem troll upthread, I don't think there's really anyone pressuring people into watching the show personally - there's a general "worth supporting" sentiment, but the majority of feminist and survivor-geared spaces seem to realize that hey, this is a show about extremely heavy subject matter that will be extremely uncomfortable for a not-insignificant number of people. We as a community should support it and similar works, but any given individual? Nah, take care of yourself, here's a spoiler guide if you decide you want to watch it, but it's not necessary.

Unfortunately, a lot of people impose their own internal pressure because they feel the pressure for the community to support something as pressure for them, personally, to support that thing - but I don't think that should be considered the fault of the community. (Or the individual - some of us are just wired that way naturally, some of us have grown to be that way because of life circumstances.)
