Favorite Battle Scene
(Anonymous) 2016-03-26 10:13 pm (UTC)(link)You can list multiple ones for different mediums, like movie vs book vs comics or something like that.
By "battle" I mean something with a large number of combatants, not just a handful of main characters or one-on-one, though it could be a large number of combatants against a single or a small handful of superpowerful opponent(s) I guess.

(Anonymous) 2016-03-26 10:45 pm (UTC)(link)I didn't like the inclusion of the elves at Helm's Deep in the movie version (it kinda fucks with the point of the battle in the larger picture, showing that the race of men can hold their own without elves, further enhancing the point that the time of the elves is over), but that's the only thing I don't like about it and it's not too big a problem.

LOTR battles too, particularly The Battle of the Hornburg and Battle of the Morannon.
In Babylon 5, the final battle between the Vorlons, the Shadows, and the other races. Short but epic. Also the battle to free Earth.
The final battle in Return of the Jedi.

(Anonymous) 2016-03-26 10:34 pm (UTC)(link)Battle of the Last Alliance at the very beginning of Fellowship. Wish it were longer (and was kind of hoping to see something like it for BoFA).
Honorable mention to the battle in Prince Caspian when the trees kick ass and the river dude stops the retreat.
Books:
War of Wrath - it just sounds awesome
Honorable mention of Battle of the Pelennor Fields. It was so much cooler in the book than in the movie.
Comics:
Kingdom Come - Mostly for the art, but I liked the different motivations of the different groups fighting.

(Anonymous) 2016-03-26 10:43 pm (UTC)(link)In the JLA comic tpb of Divided WeFall, the battle when the fairy tales were spreading through new York...I love that whole arc.
Re: Favorite Battle Scene
(Anonymous) 2016-03-27 11:03 am (UTC)(link)A Biggles short story, The Great Arena. All the WW1 battle scenes are great - the author was a pilot himself and by gosh, he could write - but that huge dogfight is particularly vivid. Also the battle in "Biggles Learns to Fly" in which they're fighting in a vast chasm in the clouds, thousands of feet deep, at the bottom of which he sees other planes darting and swirling like tiny, brightly-coloured fish... The other thing I like about his dogfight scenes is that Biggles, in his one encounter with the Red Baron, can't even get on his tail. Unlike, y'know, practically every other WW1 aviation story that's ever been published. But Johns knew how difficult and dangerous war flying really was during that era.
