I certainly would like the Scots to point me to a movie that explains why they're willing to share an island with people who like cricket.

Also, I've said this recently but it bears repeating: A Scanner Darkly is an amazingly strong indictment of both the War on Drugs and drug culture.

Can I use baseball bats? Those cricket bats are far too wide.

I'm going to take 'nonsensical reply because dethtoll has nothing to say to an actual Scot after making offensive generalisations' for ten.

You told me to go fuck myself. I'm asking questions about how I should go fuck myself. This isn't hard.

FYI, I live in a shithole village outside Glasglow. Believe it or not, people outside America actually exist and post on this forum.

Cricket is basically the same sport as baseball in terms of its fundamental appeal. Theyre really close cousins and if you can understand one you can understand the other.

I've had multiple people try to explain it to me but I still don't get cricket's appeal or even the game itself.

Conversely American football is impenetrable to me compared to soccer or rugby. There's also an added resentment factor which doesn't help.

I'm being really serious when I say the appeal, at least from what I've seen, is the same as baseball. Like, most of the same elements are there. Same historical focus, exciting plays, more or less similar paces, same appeal of spending a nice day outside with some beer, same kind of fandom. So sometimes a match goes five days, but that's not that far off from a four-game series in MLB.

The rules are a little more complicated to explain (although I think it's understandable to anyone who knows baseball, and I'll probably try and post an explanation when I'm not on a phone). But in general, as to the appeal, just assume that it's the same things that draw you to baseball.

Makes sense. I don't much like baseball culture either :)

To me they're both games with bats, balls, trying to hit a certain target with the ball and trying not to let the ball hit, and the batter running, and everyone else scattered around the field trying to catch the ball when it goes off woop-woop.

But I'm not a fan of either game, I just live in cricketing nation.

A Scanner Darkly is amazing. Dick gets a lot of praise for the stuff he wrote while he was messed up on drugs, but I think he was at his best soberly writing about what drugs did to him and those around him.

Absolutely. It's a pity he never lived to see Blade Runner in its entirety; he saw a preview of it and was so excited, and then he died. :/
