I made those captain America shield cookies today

[personal profile] sparrow_lately 2016-03-28 11:40 pm (UTC)(link)
And I couldn't find a star shaped cookie cutter ANYWHERE--I went to three grocery stores and two dollar ones. I tried to macguyver as best I could but the stars leave a LOT to be desired

Further more my hands are now dyed very, very purple

So anybody else have a long Monday

You'll have to show us when they're done!

Can you post on imgur next time though if you don't mind? tinypic is very finicky for me and I had trouble getting your first pic to load.

They look good though, I'd eat 'em right now~

Do you have a Michael's nearby? Maybe a Party City? If all else fails, try Amazon?

They sound awesome. I'm all about nerdy baking. I have Star Wars cookie cutters and Star Wars ice cube trays (which are the perfect size to make chocolates) and Doctor Who Tardis cake pans.

Pics!

Now I have lots of extra food dye and am scheming to make my sister in law some Hulk cookies...

These are for a friend who has a birthday today, and who loves Cap like life

You're such a sweet friend! I'd definitely recommend checking out Michaels around Christmas time, or right after Christmas. I have so many cookie cutters it's ridiculous because I always find cheap ones.

If you think you're going to bake a lot, keep looking and you can find some deals.

(I forgot I have Portal cookie cutters too)

As mentioned in the weekend plans thread, I made kouign-amann today! Well, mostly yesterday, but the baking part was today. I was super-worried during the process because the butter was breaking through the dough during a few of the turnings (I think I let the dough get too warm), but they ended up coming out with distinct layers and a nice sugary crunch to the outside. Here's the recipe, if anyone else wants to try it! http://www.bonappetit.com/recipe/kouign-amann

AYRT

I was vaguely aware of their existence as 'thing you can buy frozen at one of the specialty stores here sometimes,' but I didn't really know anything about them until they were a technical challenge on the Great British Bake-Off and I went "That right there? That is a thing I should try." They were fiddly and labor-intensive, but definitely worth it for the result.

I should try those someday (I love the ones Trader Joe's has sometimes) but yeast and I do not get along. I've tried basic croissants and they didn't rise much at all. Basic bread usually turns out very dense for me, too, no matter the recipe I follow.

damn. I own a star shaped cookie cutter and if I knew you IRL I'd be happy to let you borrow it.
