It's just people confusing "trigger" with "something I don't like" again.

I tend to side eye work in progresses, but I don't freak the hell out about them. I just wait until they're done before starting them, while reading other stories to tide me over in the meantime. If they're never going to get done, well, there's plenty of other stories in the sea.

The only thing I do hate is sudden WIP abandonment. It would be nice if the Author told us whether or not the story was going to get done or not.

The confusion of the term trigger bugs the fuck out of me. Like to an irrational extent. I am 100% content with warning for sexual abuse or major violence, the big ticket psychological stuff, absolutely.

I had to deal with the fic phase a few years back where people got into pages-long LJ flame wars on whether or not you should trigger warning for every single little thing, from characters crying to the apocalypse happening. Not triggers. You're upset. That's all. JFC, you're not getting PTSD because Kenshin got dropped into the Fallout 2 universe or whatever.

That why I have "The Main Six" (Violence, Torture, Death, Rape, Incest, Eating Disorder) that I warn for and nothing else. I can't hold your hand and protect you from every possible trigger you may encounter in my story. I'd never get anything else done.

na
I have a super specific trigger that sets off my ptsd and I've run into it a few times in fic. I usually get a few nights of night terrors or insomnia, maybe a couple flashbacks. And then I'm good again.
I've never gotten angry at the author or said anything to them. It's stupid to expect the whole world to cater to my specific needs. It's up to me what I expose myself to, what risks I take in regards to that, and how I respond if I'm triggered.

Anon from before the anon you're replying to - That sounds like a reasonable response. As a writer, while yes, I do complain about the faction that wants to drown everything in trigger warnings, there's also no joy in finding out something I wrote hurt someone. It's certainly not a deliberate choice, and it's not done out of malice. There's a broad grey line between telling the story and reasonably protecting the audience, and it shifts all the time.

I'm sorry for the experience that gave you PTSD, and I hope you have a long and good life only ever briefly touched by it. Thank you for being you.

Yeeeeeah, but I have a very specific trigger related to death that isn't, well, just death. I would prefer if people did trigger for _____ death.

Same here. It is completely impossible to tag for anything anyone might ever be triggered by because triggers are personal. Hell, for years I was triggered by the song "White Christmas" because of something that happened to me while it was playing. No sane person is going to warn for Christmas music, nor would I expect them to.

At some point, you have to realize that the world is not going to bend over backwards to make you comfortable and deal with it.
