Re: The only one overreacting here is YOU. Holy shit.
Where EXACTLY in the secret did OP say they were upset or offended that people didn't want to read their fic?
Please be specific.
If you want to have the mental illness argument some more I think you want the subthread above this one? *points*
Re: The only one overreacting here is YOU. Holy shit.
(Anonymous) 2016-04-04 10:00 pm (UTC)(link)"I post WIPs a lot, because I have lots of fun ideas, start writing, and think, "Hey, I'll share this. Someone else might think it's interesting too. " [The OP wants you to know that anxiety OP's secret affects them directly, and that they are generous fans who only want to share their awesomeness with the world.]
"And sometimes they run out of steam, or aren't finished, because, you know what? I'm a functional human being" [unlike these anxiety people] "with a job, a house to clean, friends to see, and a kid to look after." [The purpose of incredibly defensive statement is to imply that OP is deeply offended that someone might not like the fact that they have so many WIPs, while making sure to point out what full lives they have. This will be important later, DP, so mark it in your text. ]
"I have responsibilities, and regrettably cannot indulge in fandom as much as I'd like, but I still like to share what little output I have with the web, in the spirit of community and fun." [Seriously, if you can't tell that OP is upset and offended at this point, I can't help you. They might as well have just said, "HDY not appreciate all I do for you."]
"People who are like, "WIPs give me actual anxiety and depression" - WTF?"
[Again, OP is referencing that one secret that apparent got their pants in a twist. The purpose of this sentence is to call them out and express disbelief at the idea that someone wouldn't appreciate the many WIPs OP has bestowed upon them out of the goodness of their heart. ]
"How do you get through life? Like really? Get over yourselves and grow up. " [If you don't think OP is offended, I would love to know what you think this is about. I suppose they stopped short of saying, "You'll read my WIPs and like them, you dysfunctional freaks," but that's probably because the secret was running large as it was.]
Now, this was a Clif Notes level of reading comprehension. And like Clif Notes, I can explain the story to you but I can't understand it for you. If you don't get it yet, you're going to have to find a third party with the time and patience to explain it to you.

(Anonymous) 2016-04-04 10:27 pm (UTC)(link)Being annoyed at people fussing endlessly over the WIPs they choose to read =/= saying "WAH how dare you not like my WIPs". Not reading WIPs and thus not fussing about those WIPs being left unfinished is a completely reasonable solution that is very obviously left on the table by OP.
Re: The only one overreacting here is YOU. Holy shit.
Thank you for saying this so much more concisely than I was able to while still conveying the point really well. :)
Re: The only one overreacting here is YOU. Holy shit.
You are - deliberately? - reading so much shit into this secret that isn't implied at all.
Like I'm not OP (I barely write fic) but unless you either are or personally know OP how the hell can you be making these logical leaps.
I can't speak for OP, but here's how I interpreted the lines:
"I'm so annoyed at the negative secrets I've seen on FS lately about WIPs."
Exactly what it says on the tin. Why should this mean something other than what it says? There are many secrets (PLURAL, and you'd know this if you read F!S on a semi-regular basis) about fic writing and the relationships between authors and readers, and the negativity shown towards authors annoys OP.
"I post WIPs a lot, because I have lots of fun ideas, start writing, and think, "Hey, I'll share this. Someone else might think it's interesting too."
Again - exactly what it says on the fucking tin. Seriously? They're just saying why they post their work as WIPs despite the fact that some people *gasp* apparently don't like them.
"I'm a functional human being" I read as "I'm not a robot", not "I'm not like those losers". People act like authors can just churn out fic on command.
"I have responsibilities, and regrettably cannot indulge in fandom as much as I'd like, but I still like to share what little output I have with the web, in the spirit of community and fun."
In other words: "I don't take fandom seriously but when I play around with it for a little while it's fun." It's not "HDY NOT READ MY FIC" like lol wtf?
"People who are like, "WIPs give me actual anxiety and depression" - WTF?"
The purpose of this sentence is to call them out and express disbelief at the idea that someone wouldn't appreciate the many WIPs OP has bestowed upon them out of the goodness of their heart.
Or maybe they're just upset at being told that their unfinished work is triggering someone else's illness. Now this is a bit of a gray area since it's entirely possible to trigger someone's illness unintentionally and it doesn't make you a bad person, and I don't think the ONE SECRET that you are completely stuck on and assume is the only think OP is responding to tried to blame authors. But the idea that OP is mad that people aren't reading THEIR fic is still pretty much out of left field.
"How do you get through life? Like really? Get over yourselves and grow up."
I think OP is offended, but I don't think it's for the same reason you think they are.
tl;dr this secret reads to me like OP doesn't want to be given shit for writing WIPs - NOT that OP is mad people don't want to read their WIPs. Those are actually really different things.
