OCD Anon, signing off

(Anonymous) 2016-04-07 11:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Hey guys. So... this feels like a whiny "look at me!" attention getting post, but... since a few of you are awesome and have helped me and all, I just wanted to say thanks again, and goodbye. I just can't come here anymore. The proxy thing didn't work out. IP logging is slowly driving me insane. There was like a week where it was on, and I checked daily and never could post, almost gave up then, and then it went off FINALLY. And then it was on again... and I can't fucking submit secrets anymore, even, because they might get posted on days IP logging is on, and then I can't interact with anyone who comments on my secrets. Nevermind all the ones that I want to comment on, and can't.

It's not that I'm whining about the state of FS and bawww IP logging! It's just... I cannot participate in FS in any way that is compatible with my life anymore. It's just how it is.

It's just causing me a lot of stress lately, the fact that I can't post, and then feeling like shit about myself because I am so goddamn fucked in the head. And I just can't DO this anymore. I have too much going on in RL, and trying to get through the day to day crap. I loved spending a couple hours unwinding here every night. I don't have anywhere else to talk fandom, or anything really. Ugh. I had so much I wanted to say about shit going down in my fandom, people ragequitting over ships, fanart drama, and I had this other thing typed up yesterday, waiting for post time, and then there's the goddamn IP notice again.

Fuck I hate myself. Bye. Thanks to everyone who was awesome. You know who you are.

Hey, if it's causing you stress, don't. Not worth it. But, ask youurself why the Ip thing is so important to you? Nobody is after you.

Baybe seeking help is a thing you could go for, eventually? This seems to go further than OCD, tbh. Be well and take care.

If being here is going to stress you out, take a break or leave.

If I may ask (OP or generally), what's so upsetting about IP logging?

NAYRT, but if they have OCD it may just not work for their comfort level, that simple.

I have a friend with severe OCD, and it's like that with her. Some things just... can't be.

Thanks! I wasn't sure if it was a her personally thing (I get that to be sure) or if there was a bigger IP logging problem

The most important thing is your well being. I wish you the best.

Hey, do what you gotta do.

Take care of and be kind to yourself, anon.

If IP logging on a third-rate blogging site that only one person (who is by far one of the most level-headed people in existence) will ever even see is affecting your life it's time for you to get some professional help. Your entire existence IRL is broadcasting your identity to everyone around you. I guarantee you: the only person who cares is you.

I mean, did you read the post? The whole point was OP cares too damn much, and they seem aware of that.

I'd strongly suggest that you seek help with your issues so that you can enjoy fandom and life again. Good luck.

Fuck all y'all minimizing OP's situation and assuming they aren't already getting help. You're not heroes with your suggestions, just assholes.

Re: OCD Anon, signing off

(Anonymous) 2016-04-08 02:10 am (UTC)(link)
Assuming OP isn't just concern-trolling and trying to make us all feel guilty because of IP logging.

Re: OCD Anon, signing off

(Anonymous) 2016-04-08 02:11 am (UTC)(link)
People responding to anonymous shit like this with "get help" is a huge pet peeve of mine, even if they mean well - "getting help" isn't some magical instantaneous response that cures you of all negative effects, and most mental illnesses will never go away entirely.

Re: OCD Anon, signing off

(Anonymous) 2016-04-08 02:20 am (UTC)(link)
No one thinks getting help is a magic bullet.

We just know it's pretty much the only way that these people's circumstances will improve, because doing nothing also isn't some magical cure.

Re: OCD Anon, signing off

(Anonymous) 2016-04-08 02:46 am (UTC)(link)
But it's also fucking presumptuous as shit to assume OP wouldn't even thunk about getting help without the magical intervention of fandom secrets.

Re: OCD Anon, signing off

(Anonymous) 2016-04-08 05:15 am (UTC)(link)
You seem ignorant of how many people are opposed to getting help, or think they're not sick enough to get help because they've internalized a bunch of negative stereotypes about mental illness.

Regardless, people don't say "get help" because they assume someone will never think of it on their own, they say "get help" because hey, that person seems like they seriously need to get help. If you don't want people to comment, don't wave your issues around on a public forum.

Re: OCD Anon, signing off

(Anonymous) 2016-04-08 06:45 am (UTC)(link)
but the thing is, you don't KNOW anything about this anon. They are anon. There is nothing in their post to indicate they are against or not getting help.

And you seem ignorant to how many people say "get help" with the tone of dismissing or delegitimizing someone's actual issues, so yeah. It can come off as rude, even if it wasn't intended that way.

Re: OCD Anon, signing off

(Anonymous) 2016-04-08 07:49 am (UTC)(link)
DA

Usually anons talking about an issue like this will mention either that they are seeing someone about the issue, that they can't get help for x/y/z reason(s). That's a big clue, and also something people do to signpost 'hey, you don't need to tell me I need help, I know'.

Tgis OP didn't. Therefore, to cover all the bases, it is reasonable for commenters to suggest the OP get help if they aren't already.

Frankly, it's pretty dismissive and deligitimising of you to suggest that that the users and anons suggesting OP get help are doing so patronisingly, considering the amount and breadth of mental issues the commenters on this forum grapple with.

or think they're not sick enough to get help

This was me five years ago! It didn't help that I knew people who were worse off than me. Being told to get help the way people are in this thread confirmed that no, I wasn't just being too sensitive/dramatic! I'm in a much better place now.
