Did you read the Murata or ONE version of One Punch Man? ONE's clicked with me a lot more.

But if it's not your thing anymore don't force yourself and maybe experiment with what you read. You'll come back if you get that itch again and if that doesn't happen, that happens too.

Perhaps you could start digging up on more obscure shonen series rather than the popular ones. Or try a different genre more adept to your age maybe. Not saying that adults can't enjoy things for a younger audience, but tastes change and it's ok to grow out of things, while keeping the good memories.

Take a break from it for a while. Some time apart may make you appreciate it more when you come back to the genre.

Dark text on dark background. *sigh* Transcript, anyone?

Maybe try going to an optometrist.

I have done, and will continue to do thanks to my poor eyesight. But what recourse do you have for your lack of empathy regarding other peoples' physical handicaps?

Here it is

(Anonymous) 2016-04-12 11:21 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm 25 now. Been a shounen manga fan most of my life, eating up most popular series like Goku on a buffé. But reading Haikyuu!!, One-Punch Man etc... I just can't get into them. The humor, the cliches, it doesn't resound with me anymore. But at the same time, I really don't want this period of my life to be over... I just don't know what to do.

I'm more baffled by how badly tweaked the picture is.

Ha, I feel you. I've always loved shounen, but lately I feel like I don't have patience for it anymore... I've gone back to some of the older stuff. Currently I'm watching Saint Seiya from the beginning.

By the way, if you want something new that has more of an old-school feel, maybe try Ushio to Tora? I liked it a lot more than I expected to, and then discovered the manga is from the 90s.

Well, step one is learning how to spell "Buffet"...

(Anonymous) 2016-04-12 11:12 pm (UTC)(link)
I think it's normal since they are mostly trying to appeal to young boys, especially the current popular ones. I also have been feeling kinda burned out on shonen jump lately, I'm not looking forward to them as much as I used to.

I kinda just want haikyuu, one piece, bleach, shokugeki no souma, nisekoi, gintama, and others to just end already and maybe get something new and fresh some attention.

Wait, is Bleach still going on?! I thought that ended ages ago. Wasn't there wank about it?

I understand not getting into shonen titles anymore, I pretty much feel the same. That said, I think it's funny that your examples of things you can't get into because are the two things that renewed my love for anime/manga.

I mean, Haikyuu is definitely a shonen title, but it avoids the tropes that annoy me the most about sports anime and I had no trouble getting into it (as opposed to Kuroko no Basket, for example). But I love volleyball so HQ would have had to be really awful to make me not like it. OPM is a parody of the shonen/superhero genre, so the typical tropes are almost always lampshaded or subverted. I've known about it for ages but ignored it because I thought it was your typical shonen title. I actually love it.

I cannot understand the appeal of haikyuu anymore. I really thought I'd love it in the beginning, but then it just lost it's heart somewhere along the line. That shiratorizawa match really killed my interest in it to the point of dropping it. I couldn't bring myself to care about the opposing team or Tsukishima so a 40+ chapters long match murdered my soul. It really doesn't help that haikyuu has no SoL or downtime chapters in between important matches just to get to know the characters outside the sport, it's just back to back intense matches.

I dunno. Maybe it's something that only appeals to volleyball players. I tend to prefer sports series that can balance both the sport and character building better.

Yeah I was a little baffled when they mentioned One Punch Man. Maybe they don't like it precisely because they love shounen so much? I've seen a lot of DBZ fans (mostly DBZ for some reason) pissed off because they feel it's "making fun of them", but the sort of affectionate reverence ONE and Murata have for the genre is going completely over their heads. I can see where if you take shounen 100% seriously that OPM could leave a bad taste in your mouth, but honestly I think the series is pretty incredible. It's a parody with legs of it's own.

(Anonymous) 2016-04-12 11:26 pm (UTC)(link)
I get it, recent battle and sport shounen are very cliché and rarely there's something in newer works that adds to the tropes used on it, so it's just so boring.

TBH that's the reason I'm more into seinen these days, as well as old school battle shounen because despite its own tropes it has far more original ideas on it.

(Anonymous) 2016-04-12 11:45 pm (UTC)(link)
maybe try seinen?

(Anonymous) 2016-04-13 12:30 am (UTC)(link)
Every time I hear seinen I imagine gore and sex. I'd prefer something that maintains light-hearted atmosphere but not as childish as typical shonen jump stuff.

Mmmh well DB, Bleach and Naruto had a lot of power levels and the stakes of the universe and all that. Compared to Haikyuu, OPM and anything else that has popped out the feel is quite different. On the other hand yeah, maybe you're burnt out on shounen. It happened to me too and I ended up gravitating to other genres and have not been disappointed.

(Anonymous) 2016-04-13 12:55 am (UTC)(link)
None of those examples in the secret are really that great though. Maybe it's time for you to branch out to other genres.

I'm not a fan of Haikyuu or One Punch Man, especially OPM. I DID watch the first two episodes of My Hero Academia recently and I found it really charming and fun? It's the first Shounen Jump title I've found myself really enjoying in some years.

As far as non Jump titles, I've been following Noragami and Magi on a chapter to chapter basis recently, and I enjoy both of them a lot. Noragami is especially good. I really can't recommend the manga enough (the anime is fun too, but the manga goes much further of course).

(Anonymous) 2016-04-13 03:36 am (UTC)(link)
it may not be that you're growing out of shounen, more likely you're not finding the things you used to like in DBZ/Bleach/Naruto/YuYu Hakusho in any of the newer series. they're really not the same so don't go thinking they should be and the flaw is with you.

especially haikyuu, jeez that's a sports manga, not a fantasy fighting manga.

can't help you on OPM though, I'm avoiding it because everyone is on my ass to read/watch it solely because I like One Piece.

That's kind of odd of them considering it's nothing like One Piece. :(
