Devil's advocate: you can't always predict where you're going to bruise. And things like handcuffs tend to be well, in a visible place.

Also, I dunno, unless they downright have a black eye, it IS sort of rude to ask? I mean I come at this from a different angle, having self-harmed, but I basically still get people being nosy busybodies 15 years down the line. And I feel a lot of it is sort of concern-trolling.

Personally I'd just say I do sports in this case, though.

If that's the case, they're doubly idiots for not being more careful. EVen if you bruise unexpectedly, hello, make up and concealing clothes/accessories. People have gotten fired for more trivial crap than being into BDSM. It's not fair, but you can't pay your rent with cries of how unjust the world is.

Small children should be easier to lie to. They don't know what BDSM is (or if they do, that's their parents' fault). "I was doing some very complex stretches :)" ought to work.

It's not so much the small kids themselves that are a concern, it's how likely they are to blab it to their parents, and how a person who works with kids (in say, a teaching or daycare capacity) is far more likely to come into regular contact with parents who might freak out.
