I'm surprised. Greenville and Spartanburg area are both big cities with diverse populations. I wouldn't have thought the local GOP would put up with the crap this guy was spewing. Huh.

There are disgusting people in every organization. The GOP is no exception. There are equally disgusting people on the other side. They tend to support the soft bigotry of low expectations.

The GOP is currently in a civil war, and we are in no way united on pretty much any topic you can think of, certainly not this one. The governor of SC has stated the law is unnecessary, and a delegation of mayors and local leaders recently visited Columbia to protest such laws. The Chamber of Commerce opposes the proposed law.

Now to answer your intended question...Yes Hillary is just as disgusting as him. The kind of things she says promotes hatred of gay and trans people. Hillary wouldn't say anything like he did, because she's not violent. But she will say the kinds of things that make people like him think it's okay to be violent towards trans and gay people.

She'll say things that make us seem lesser, other, inferior, second-class citizens, acceptable targets. She'll say things that lead to our oppression and subjugation, and for some of us, our deaths.

Only unlike that sheriff, she pretends to be our friend (when it suits her) and our ally, pretends to be compassionate and egalitarian. Meanwhile she contributes to our violent deaths.

Source for what? For the idea that talking about people as inferior and unequal others/dehumanizes them, making it easier for people to justify attacking them or treating them badly? That's a social psychology basic.

Typically, in academic writing, you aren't supposed to cite things that are well-known and that you can take it for granted your audience is already aware of.

I'm going to be freezing some of the subthreads in this thread that are branching out into only insultfights, but not all of it so that blitzwing can reply with sources if they get them. (I hope that's fair enough, since the debate is about the sources and freezing everything would remove all potential/necessity of sources being provided here.)

ETA: and if insults are ALL there is, then I'm deleting those.

I looked up what she says. It seems like she consistently avoids talking about trans people as a distinct group, always saying "LGBT." I guess that's bad, but it's still loads better than all those politicians who refer to transwomen as "he" and "him."
