The comment's a harmless joke, but not divulging too much personal information online is still the smart move. Even leaving aside any concerns about what random strangers might do with your info, it makes it a lot easier for people you know in real life to connect you with shit you might rather not be connected with.

Yeah. I shudder to think how large a fandom footprint (fanprint?) I've left, not to mention how much wank and embarrassing kinkfic could've been linked back to me. Even now, some of it can (at least until the Internet Archive decides it doesn't want to keep up with certain sites).
