Bugs Bunny?

(Anonymous) 2016-04-30 12:07 am (UTC)(link)
God I was trying to figure out what fandom it was then I saw this and now I can't even consider anything else

(Anonymous) 2016-04-30 12:11 am (UTC)(link)
MTE. I kept thinking about all the times Elmer Fudd got kissed by Bugs, in drag and out of it.

(Anonymous) 2016-04-29 10:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Context matters, did the character feel assaulted?

I think there's a line between something being invasive but otherwise harmless and something being sexual assault. If a fellow fan hugs you because they're so happy their sports team won the game, do you think that's sexual assault?

(Anonymous) 2016-04-29 10:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Tumblr does.

(Anonymous) 2016-04-29 11:10 pm (UTC)(link)
I wasn't asking Tumblr, I was asking OP.

(Anonymous) 2016-04-29 11:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Tumblr has nothing to do with this secret...?

Lol you tumblr haters are starting to reach a bit too far.

This reminds me of the famous photo of a sailor kissing a woman in Times Square (I believe, without checking) after WW2 ended. Supposedly the woman came forward, and she said that he didn't ask her permission and she was taken aback and felt uncomfortable, but understood that he was just incredibly joyous. It sounded like she didn't consider it sexual assault, despite being uncomfortable and not consenting to the kiss.

I still think it's not something you should do and should be discouraged, but I'm not sure it counts as sexual assault. Something lesser, maybe? I don't know the law, unfortunately.

One of my favorite pairings ever (icon relevant) first kisses when, during an excited conversation, he basically grabs her face and kisses her. She's fine with it--very!!--but the low-key squick factor is still there if you don't know these characters' 7-season history of quiet pining and the fact that she's very much in love with him. Which is why...drum roll..context matters!

So I guess it's about context here, and since I don't know the context, I can't help. But it could make you feel better. I like the above anon's comparison to strangers hugging at a sports game. (I think I hugged about 10 strangers when Obama was elected and was picked up off the ground by at least one.)

Kissing is obviously kind of different but....it's cartoon land?

(Anonymous) 2016-04-29 10:53 pm (UTC)(link)
That's not sexual assault. It's a little "you shouldn't really do that, it's rude and might freak someone out" but it's definitely not sexual assault.

If the kissed character was really upset by that and said so, and then the kisser did it again after knowing that, THAT would be sexual assault.

(Anonymous) 2016-05-01 05:51 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, it is sexual assault. In reality, the law is that if someone is touched in a sexual way without their permission, it's sexual assault. Just grabbing someone and kissing them is touching them without their permission. Well, it's at the very least sexual harassment or abuse.

(Anonymous) 2016-04-29 11:00 pm (UTC)(link)
When things like that happen, and it's just once or so, I ignore it and blame the writer. The writer probably doesn't know it's assault (neither would most people watching, probably, especially if it's not extremely recent) and doesn't think the character's doing anything wrong, so it's not fair to judge the character.

If it's a recurring thing that the character does, then it gets to be too much and does kind of ruin a character for me. But something like what you're talking about has happened in a couple of my fandoms and I just threw up my hands and said nope, I'm not going to start hating a fictional character who has otherwise never been anything but respectful just because the writer made a misjudgment one time.

(Anonymous) 2016-04-29 11:56 pm (UTC)(link)
That is NOT a sexual assault. It's rude to do and worthy of a slap but depends on the people doing it--many wouldn't mind such a thing and won't see it as sexual at all.

Putting your genitals on someone's face a la Peyton Manning? Now THAT is sexual assault, even if there's no violence involved.

We have become a hypersensitive society and it will kill us. Either we'll all become eggshell fragile or we'll get some kind of massive backlash that will usher in some kind of new hyper-conservativism that will take away all the social progress we're fighting for.

OMFG

How have we come to a point of such mind-blowing sex negativity. How.

(Anonymous) 2016-04-29 11:41 pm (UTC)(link)
For fucks sake. It only squicks you because you had to think about it and decide it was something that would offend tumblrs delicate SJW feelings? Do you even have a mind of your own? Do you just dictate how you should feel about stuff because some underage brats have a platform to whine about anything and everything now?

If it was played lighthearted in the show then you shouldn't get so fucking worked up about it. Fuck.

(Anonymous) 2016-04-30 01:17 am (UTC)(link)
Why are you and half of the commenters getting so aggressive and defensive, jesus christ.

OP never mentioned tumblr or just social justice in general anywhere in their secret, yet here you are having a fit.
And lol I still don't see why you care so much. OP didn't even mention a specific fandom or character so it's not like they're calling anyone out or anything.

Lmao you anti-sjws are just as whiny and werid as the sjw you claim to hate so much.

the reaction of the comment section surprises me... really?!
kissing on the mouth is inherently more sexual than hugging (and less hygienic).

a sweeping victory kiss might not last long, but without context it also happens so fast that the other party can't consent.
it's sexual assault, even on a minor scale.

(Anonymous) 2016-04-30 12:52 am (UTC)(link)
I bet the commenters are equating sexual assault to rape, since rape is a form of sexual assault and is sometimes referred to as that. And of course it would be incorrect to call a kiss rape. But OP didn't do that and the commenters think they did.

Without context, how do you know it was on the mouth? People kiss cheeks too.

(Anonymous) 2016-04-30 12:31 am (UTC)(link)
No, if it happened irl it would not be sexual assault. It would be baffling and perhaps offputting for Character B, but a random smooch is not a big deal.

(Anonymous) 2016-04-30 05:03 am (UTC)(link)
It's probably a female character who does it. So that's why nobody would take it seriously. If a male character did it, lots of people would agree with OP.

(Anonymous) 2016-04-30 12:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Technically it is sexual assault since it would be unwanted sexual contact, but in fiction (and in life sometimes) it's probably not a bad idea to consider the context. Since they didn't really mean any harm I'd probably not make too a big deal about it.

having said that it is kind of a pervasive trope : some man excited about something suddenly decides to kiss some random, unsuspecting woman, who doesn't have any interest in kissing this person, but somehow just has to take it or shrug it off and be a good sport and it's always played for laughs. I mean how often does it happen where an excited male character, who isn't gay or bi (or even if they are gay or bi), gets overexcited and kisses the first person who comes along who happens to be a man? I think it does play into a sense of entitlement that men in general have towards women and their bodies and I do find myself less and less amused by it (and no I'm not a tumblrite). Fiction doesn't exist in a vacuum and messages that are constantly reinforced on screen can end up reinforcing ideas already being perpetuated off screen.

(Anonymous) 2016-04-30 02:26 pm (UTC)(link)
I've seen just as many female characters do this as males. This is the one thing that seems to be fairly equal.

(Anonymous) 2016-04-30 11:32 pm (UTC)(link)
I actually see guy kissing guy quite a bit, which is supposed to underline the humor. It's not a trope I use but it doesn't bother me.
