Re: -ists, phobias and slurs
(Anonymous) 2016-04-29 11:29 pm (UTC)(link)You don't need to wear tight bike shorts to ride a bike FFS. Victorian era women used to ride bikes in long skirts and corsets. Nuns can ride bikes in habits. I see people in jeans riding bikes around my neighborhood all the time. Globally, women ride bikes in all kinds of outfits.
Also, it's true there are elderly or disabled people who aren't going to benefit from bike lanes (although there are different types of bikes to accommodate some disabilities) but the thing about a diverse population is you can't possibly benefit everyone equally all the time because everyone has different needs. If spending public money on a bike lane is ageist, then arguably so is spending money on elder care or youth programs or anything that does not equally serve every age group from cradle to grave all at once.

(Anonymous) 2016-04-29 11:36 pm (UTC)(link)That is the silliest thing I've ever read. Women's bicycles are designed so that one can even wear a long skirt to ride!
