In one sense Gomez feels like the 'oldest' the character has been, not physically but in terms of simply being beyond giving a fuck about behaving (while also being totally self-aware). She doesn't care about dominating the cosmos, it's a bit like the idea has lost its lustre for her after so much time; she just wants interaction on her own level. She gets called wacky, but the appeal for me is that it's a bit of a Doctor-like front for the deep ennui and disappointment at her core. Her attempts to get her old friend the Doctor to indulge his true potential by confounding his irritating moral integrity are no end of fun.
