Dark Souls
Or am I really the only Soulsbourne fan here? I can't recall any secrets/discussions about the games before, ever.

Re: Dark Souls
It's the only way you'll get to play Demon's and Bloodbourne anyway, as they're PS3/4 exclusive.
Re: Dark Souls
Not that a PS3 isn't worth getting for a multitude of other games. I'm still waiting on a price drop to justify a PS4.

Re: Dark Souls
Another thing I honestly think the series doesn't get enough credit for is the customizability of builds. People were complaining that Bioware won't let you be fat/androgynous/an overly muscular woman or feminine dude for ages, but like... guys, Soulsbourne's let you be an obese hero since its inception, if you really wanna. And the armor is identical for female characters. There are sliders for just about everything. Your skin can be anything from pitch black to frosty white and everything in between or other. You can even by young or old.
To me that's an essential part of the story: it's a grim tale of survival, and having grotesque titty armour would just destroy the mood utterly. It's not here to pander, it's here to hand you your ass on a plate. I mean, yes, ultimately the Chosen Undead/Bearer of the Curse/Good Hunter/Ashen One's physical characteristics don't actually matter to the story, only the player's choices do, but that I think is in and of itself a powerful statement.
I'm genuinely surprised there's so much hullaballoo about the progressiveness of some developers but From is hardly ever mentioned.
Re: Dark Souls
Also, I agree with you completely. I think people have a tendency to focus on the series' legendary difficulty while missing all the other shit that goes with it.

(Anonymous) 2016-05-01 12:40 am (UTC)(link)I got through the Cleric Beast on my second try, but Father Gascoigne is absolutely ruining my shit so far lmao. I'm pretty good at getting him down to the point where he transforms, but then I panic and make a ton of stupid mistakes that get me killed. I just need to remember to chill out, use visceral attacks, and remember I have the music box if I need it.
I really love that despite its difficulty, it's fair. When I die, I know it's my own fuck-up, and that's what makes beating something feel so great. Aaaahhhh I really love it!
Re: Dark Souls
Remember that with Father Gascoigne you can always run away and ring him - use the objects in the terrain to your advantage, that's advice for every boss fight, really.
You're in for a treat - it only gets better, and more bleakly, grotesquely wonderful from there!
Bloodborne is as good as Dark Souls imo, so you started in a great place.
