Re: Disney

I try not to begrudge people their love of Disney theme parks because hey, you don't need to have kids to enjoy them, you do you, etc. etc. But *I* don't want to go. They just don't have anything for me. I get motion sickness on rides, I don't function well in crowds, and I don't feel like their high admission costs and food is worth dipping into my limited budget. I'd pass even if the trip were free, it's just not my thing. But every single time this comes up, someone is absolutely incredulous and asks me why I hate fun, blah blah blah. THEY'RE NOT FUN FOR _ME_, THAT'S WHY.

You sound like my husband. I'll never get to go to Disney again. :(

Well, it's not like I'd stop my spouse from going if that's what they wanted, but I wouldn't go with them. Either separate vacations or a nice relaxing staycation for me.

I'm not sure I could date someone who hated Disneyland tbh

That's fair. I wouldn't want to date anyone who felt that not loving Disney was a dealbreaker.

I can understand this. For a partial graduation present, I want to go BY MYSELF because I know my parents don't enjoy it as much as I do, and it brings me down.

We did really like Epcot and Downtown Disney though. Especially during the Flower Show.

I love Disney theme parks (even though I haven't gone in 20 years), but fuck how they treat their employees.

I lived in Orlando for a few years and went to the parks from time to time with the family. They're alright, but yeah, I don't get the almost religious-like fervor that some get for it. I mean hey, whatever floats your boat and makes you happy. But eh, WDW was never really my jam.

Frankly? I liked Universal Studios better of the two Orlando parks. Can't wait for them to open their Nintendo Land down in Orlando, but I digress.

As much as I love Disney movies, I'd rather go see a real castle than a theme park.

Fun story time: my parents took me to Disneyland when I was two. We saw Eeyore. My mom sicced me on Eeyore. "Go pull his tail! Go pull his tail!" So I chased the Eeyore, reaching for his tail.

And I grabbed it. And promptly fell down. The poor bastard playing Eeyore fell too. I started screaming. While my parents tried to calm me down and help poor Eeyore, my fuckwit of a brother took pictures and screamed like a howler monkey with laughter (which had the added bonus of making me cry harder).

So when people ask me if I ever want to go to Disney World...nah.

To be fair, I don't think Mom expected me to catch Eeyore. She was probably just being goofy and silly while watching her toddler 'chase' a beloved character. And I don't remember Daddy joining in the 'get Eeyore' routine, but I think he tried to calm me down after I tripped (my memories of this are rather hazy after 28 years. I know it mainly from some blurry pictures and family stories).

My older brother on the other hand, is a shitstain.

LOL wasn't there a Disney secret about preferring real castles to theme park ones? People dogpiled the OP for being a pretentious snob. That wasn't you, by any chance, was it? ;)

I remember that one. It wasn't me, but I agree with the secret maker. Nothing against Disney, but I love medieval castles more than I love fake ones.

I respect that you wouldn't enjoy them. I love them but I understand it's not everyone's cup of tea.

Just like I don't get the appeal of skiing or sitting on a beach. I love traveling to explore new cities.

This is how I feel. I've never been, and I don't feel deprived. Not my thing. If I have to go to some sort of park, give me a water park. Rides make me sick.

The last time I went to Disneyland was my first time on Space Mountain. Ngh. I loathe rollercoasters. Everyone I went with knew this going in, yet somehow I still had to go on the damn ride. There was a lot of screaming, and not the fun kind. There may have been a few riffs on "Mommy help! Let me off let me off let me--" I was in my twenties. My mom was actually there, and you'd think she'd remember my first trip to Disneyland, as a little kid, which involved pretty much the same screaming soundtrack, but for the Matterhorn, and which resulted in actual nightmares for years afterwards.

When I was four, my Mom and aunt (Mom's younger sister) took me to Disney World. They forced me to ride Space Mountain. While waiting in line, I had worked myself up into a meltdown. My aunt was in the front seat, I was in the middle, and Mom was behind me. I threw up during the first drop. It splattered on everyone in the space ship car.
