My favorites are all the old ones that would be too problematic today. I just like traditional fairy tales. I love that no one ever talks about Sleeping Beauty because I get to love it in peace. Hell, I've started watching old Hollywood films for the same reason.

My favorite of their canon is Tarzan, which doesn't seem unpopular so much as "Oh yeah, they made one."

I rewatched some of them that I thought I didn't like (TLK, Frozen, Mulan, Aladdin), I actually enjoyed The Lion King and Aladdin but nope...Frozen just isn't for me. Mulan...hoo boy. No thanks.

My favorite is Lion King. Always. I saw the Broadway show and sobbed(more than once) because I loved it so much. I love the older hand drawn movies more than the CGI ones (I love several of those). However, I have not seen any Disney/Pixar movies in full since Tangled. :X

I try not to begrudge people their love of Disney theme parks because hey, you don't need to have kids to enjoy them, you do you, etc. etc. But *I* don't want to go. They just don't have anything for me. I get motion sickness on rides, I don't function well in crowds, and I don't feel like their high admission costs and food is worth dipping into my limited budget. I'd pass even if the trip were free, it's just not my thing. But every single time this comes up, someone is absolutely incredulous and asks me why I hate fun, blah blah blah. THEY'RE NOT FUN FOR _ME_, THAT'S WHY.

Gargoyles is my favorite thing Disney made. I think Elisa is amazing (and she was so hot when she wore Belle's dress for Halloween). I feel so lucky to have been the right age and to have had that available when I was growing up.

My favorite Disney princess movie is Sleeping Beauty. I love the music and the look and Malificent is my favorite villain. She's perfect.

I miss hand-drawn animation.

Favourites are probably Mulan, Atlantis and Sleeping Beauty. Mulan because she hits all my trickster hero buttons, Atlantis because best crew, I swear I love all those amazing misfits and Mrs Packard is a gift from god, Sleeping Beauty because it's so amazingly beautiful and because the baddie up and turns into a dragon for the literal hell of it.

I love the Little Mermaid, Mulan, and Aladdin.

The Hunchback of Notre Dame would have been better if they cut out those stupid gargoyles. Also, moar Clopin pls.

Pocahontas and John Smith were both bland and boring. The secondary characters were far more interesting. Except for that fucking racoon. That thing needed to become a hat.

The Princess and the Frog needs more love. Lottie stole the show. That should be the next movie Disney turns into a stage play, but it won't. :(

Lilo and Stitch also needs more love. 'Cause that little girl made it rain on my face.

I really love Brother Bear. I LOVE the moose, and the setting. I can take or leave Koda though.

I also really love Fantasia. Beauty and the Beast and Robin Hood were my favorites growing up, and I also really love Sword in the Stone. Emperor's New Groove is amazing, and I really liked Atlantis and Treasure Planet.

Winnie the Pooh gets a mention for Eeyore, Pooh, and Tigger's speech. Of the more recent stuff, I liked Wreck-It-Ralph the best, but I'm really excited to see Zootopia.

I just wish they'd abandon the CGI and go back to cartoons. Seriously not into CGI at all, or the tone change they've taken since they became CGI (i.e. a lot goofier and less serious)

Mulan and Lilo and Stitch are my favourites, I love everything about those films and they are often my go-to Disney movies(to the extent where I think I'm wearing out my Mulan DvD, oops).

But I also love The Emperor's New Groove and Atlantis is also really good and very underrated.

I mean tbh there are only two Disney movies I didn't like on some level, I'm just pretty easy to please with those films on the whole.

Re: Disney

(Anonymous) 2016-05-03 11:57 pm (UTC)(link)
The other day I randomly remembered Pete's Dragon, one of those old Disney musicals that was mostly live-action with some animation put in. I hadn't seen it since I was really little, but I'd loved it, so I went to YouTube because I was sure someone must have put up a full version, it's not like it was a terribly popular movie that they'd keep close copyright tabs on or WAIT A MINUTE what are all these trailers that say 2016 on them?

So yeah, Disney's doing another remake of one of its old movies that looks like it has almost nothing to do with the original. Which will now probably be impossible to find. If only I'd remembered that movie a year or two earlier... still really want to watch it again now.

Loveee Lilo and Stitch, Hunchback, Mulan and Aladdin

I don't really have any criticism... overall I don't think disney puts out that many bad movies. It's more like some of their movies don't live up to the high expectations they set.

My favorite of the new is Empire's New Groove, and my co-favorites of the old are Alice in Wonderland and The Sword in the Stone, which latter I think is unfairly ignored because it's really well done and the animation is Bill Peet at his best and there are a lot of absolutely hilarious moments. But I think the fact that it doesn't have a sparkly princess in it basically means it's never going to be as popular as the ones that do feature a sparkly princess.

Re: Disney

it's not my favourite-favourite (those are probably Mulan, Aladdin, and the Lion King), but I've always really loved Hercules and don't know why that one seemed to slip through the cracks. It was funny, the music was amazing, I LIKED that the art style was different and Greek-influenced, the Underworld was legit creepy, James Woods was amazing as Hades! The hero's lady love was a)morally grey and b)older than him (and definitely more experienced!) - there's a lot to love there, in my opinion.

Upcoming live action Beauty and the Beast

(Anonymous) 2016-05-04 02:15 am (UTC)(link)
I'm torn between excitement because Beauty and the Beast is one of my favorite stories period, nevermind Disney, and sad that apparently they're not including the songs added for the live musical. And I'm worried it's partially because the leads aren't up to singing them. I could take or leave the rest, but I love "Me," which is hilarious, "Home," and especially "If I Can't Love Her." At least the supporting cast looks amazing, even if I'm afraid the leads are going to generate the usual complements that they did a fantastic job--for non-singers. Just once I wanna see a musical adaptation that forgoes that qualifier.
