Pet food poll

(Anonymous) 2016-05-05 11:24 pm (UTC)(link)
FS, please help me with my homework.

If you have a dog or cat, would you mind telling me what brand food you feed, or do you do a homemade pet diet?

Thank you!

dog food: acana or taste of the wild

Re: Pet food poll

[personal profile] herpymcderp 2016-05-05 11:44 pm (UTC)(link)
I used to feed my cat Acana... then I realized Taste of the Wild was the same damn thing but like $10 cheaper.

I feed my cats Origin. It's a grain-free brand that's like 90% meat, and generally stuff that's actually good for cats. It's a little expensive but I budget for it.

I feed them Authority Grain Free dry food and Special Kitty wet cat food.

Mostly "Blue" cat food and canned meat baby food. She's an older cat with a sensitive stomach. I vary her food a bit but that's mainly what she eats lately.

I feed my cat Taste of The Wild grain free dry formula, which I cover with water so he can't wolf it down so fast he chokes himself.

He also gets bits of what I'm eating, so his actual diet is pretty varied.

Blue Buffalo for one with digestive issues. Nature's Variety Instinct for the other who has tons of food allergy issues. I had to go through lots of trial and error with both of them, but we've stuck with these the longest, and they do the best on them. Figures that they're also some of the most expensive brands out there. (But the little monsters are worth it.)

If you do homemade, be sure to get a recipe from your veterinarian or other trusted source. I once had to switch my boy to a turkey and rice diet for a bit, and while it settled his stomach while he was sick, he couldn't have stayed on it for long without losing some vital nutrients. A lot of homemade recipes forget about some necessary vitamins or they have the wrong balance of carbs/fats/protein for their diet.

I have two cats. I feed them the Wegmans store brand wet cat food in Liver & Chicken (the only flavor they'll eat) and Blue Wilderness Indoor Cat Hairball and Weight Control dry food in Chicken.

I like both because they're grain free and have decent ingredients.

I mix and match dry grain frees. Usually black hawk or stay loyal.

Supplemented with raw meat - all the bits of the animals. Nothing says love like giving your dog a diced up heart and some intestines.

Mine get Whiskers, both the wet food and the dry kibble as they like both. And they get the cut-offs of raw meat or table scraps(when appropriate) too.

I feed my cat grain-free, and he also feeds himself baby rabbits and house sparrows.

(before you go off on me he's primarily an indoor cat and all the birds he eats are pretty much invasive species, and there's an overpopulation of rabbits in town, so he's doing the environment a favor)

My dog will only eat cheap dry food for his main meals because I guess that's what he was always fed. He gets Optimum which is at least a complete food. We've tried him on Hill's Science and Royal Canin and he will pick at them but then leave most of it in the bowl.
He does not eat raw meat or the fancy organic pet mince. Even if I hide it in his dry food he picks it out. He loves veggies though. Usually whatever I'm having. His favourite treat is peanut butter - the raw unsalted kind.

I feed my kitties raw meat, after I learned about the urinary tract problems and other health problems a lot of commercial cat food causes. I just buy the meat at the butcher shop.

There are special urinary tract health blends of commercial food, but I switched to the raw meat diet because most stores weren't carrying them and the ones that did were frequently sold out -_-

I feed my dog Hill's Science Diet -- kibble and "wet" canned meals.

Sometimes I'll slip her table food. I only give her canned chicken or white rice when she's sick.

Cat, Royal Canin Urinary SO, dry. (He doesn't like wet, so I leave two water dishes out for him).

The dog gets 'Taste of the Wild'.

The cats used to get that, too, until one of them decided he would *not* touch it. I tried several brands until finally they're on Iam's 'Sensitive Stomach' with chicken. Only one he'll touch.
