Don't buy chocolate labradors

(Anonymous) 2016-05-06 10:23 pm (UTC)(link)
It's racist

Apparently science has discovered that chocolate labs have a gene mutation that makes them constantly hungry, which is why they have such gross eating habits, and can literally never feel full no matter how much they eat. That is one of the reasons so many chocolate labs end up obese, it isn't due to owners overfeeding (well, not always) but because they are driven by hunger to consume anything they can. This breed is born to live a life of pain and hunger and it is extreme cruelty to keep breeding them.

This does not include "constantly hungry" "gross eating habits" "can literally never feel full no matter how much they eat" and "it is extreme cruelty to keep breeding them" so I'm going to doubt your evidently sensationalized word.

Source please, because this sounds like some BS thing that PETA would pull out of their ass to try and stop people from buying certain breeds of dogs.

Why the fuck would they choose brown Labs? Or make up stuff? There are plenty of real reasons not to buy pedigree breeds.

I don't know, why do they do most of the stupid shit they do?

There's real reasons to not buy pedigree, yes, but "They have a gene that makes them constantly hungry and it's torture to own one!" isn't one of them. Especially if there's no proof that it's true.

TL;DR of it is scientists located a gene that increases appetite and is associated with obesity in dogs, and OP took this to mean that those dogs are chronically suffering and it's torture to own one.

OP is severely overreacting misrepresenting (outright making up) parts of the study:

Colour doesn't affect which labrador has the mutation. Only 1/4 of the labradors have it.

They only think they're hungry, they're not in pain and your article says right there you can still keep them slim and healthy by controlling how much they eat. So unless you're leaving their bags of food in easy access, they're not consuming "anything" they can.

There is no cruelty here in breeding them -_- just an interesting tidbit about food drive, genes that affect it and how this affects their ability to learn and gain weight.

Chill.

You know, I thought about a 9/10, but changed it to a perfect score because it's so innovative wank-wise! Worth that extra point, imho!
