(Anonymous) 2016-05-07 12:37 am (UTC)(link)I think the difference between Dean / Amara in season 11 and Sam/Lilith in seasons 3/4 is that when Lilith was in the child vessel she acted like a child and she was never looking to seduce Sam. The only time she acted like a seductress was in her adult vessel, which was a completely different vessel.
Also, Dean's talk about enjoying "evil" was not really a good confession, as he was talking about the times when he was "enjoing" torturing souls in hell (and I put that in between quotes since it is pretty obvious that the enjoyment came not out of causing pain, but about not being the one hurt at the time) and is completely different from the fear of being unable to control his own body. He pretty much says that the problem with the Amara thing is that he is no longer in control of his own body and that terrifies him, it has nothing to do with "letting myself do things I would otherwise despite but deep down I like" but "holy fuck, I can't move my arms at all and she is using me as a puppet".
And well, I do get why you wouldn't see it as a mysoginistic trope but ... uhm.. you pretty much described why it is (Male = light and creation, Female = Darkness and destruction. I mean, why can't it be the other way around?)
Female villians are cool. Problem is, this show has a horrible track record with them (Lilith is basically a McGuffin for Lucifer's story. Bela... ugh. Ruby is the Whore to the Madonna/Whore duality with Jess and is there just to advance Sam's story as a Mesiah figure. Abaddon was underused. Rowena is a caricature. The closest to a cool female villian we had was Meg and she had to get a redemption arc and a love interest out of nowhere for her final episode. Which I GET was because the actress was retiring, but still... ugh)
