I think I'd really love it if I saw it in person (ha! good freaking luck to me), but because it's not something I can hum along to mindlessly while doing my work, it's hard for me to appreciate it on Spotify. When I can focus on it, I realize there's a lot of depth there, but my attention wanders without the corresponding action on a stage, so I quickly lose the thread. Maybe if I listened to it more and learned the notes, it would go better for me. I don't know.

That all said, the entire thing seems tailor-made for the internet squee endlessly over, and some of the fans are getting obnoxious. I'm thrilled that a largely POC cast is getting their dues in this mega-hit - greater representation is fabulous. I don't need a diatribe about how racist Broadway is (I agree with you - preaching to the choir here... no really, please stop yelling at me about it), or how I can't like "The Book of Mormon" too, because it was written by two white guys.

I grow weary of a lot of things that get a lot of hype very fast because of the fandom, so I am glad I listened to this musical before it went nuclear on my social media. I can see going into listening it with a lot of negative feelings if the fandom had gotten to me before the work itself.

""The Book of Mormon" too, because it was written by two white guys. "

Yeah, the two white guys who created South Park, aka one of the most anti-social justice and pro-apathy towards racism shows out there. Parker and Stone being white isn't the problem.

But the Hamilton fandom is BEYOND obnoxious. They're starting fights with other fandoms and spilling into ones that have nothing to do with it. You can't sing the songs if you're white, can't cosplay them, and you can't acknowledge that the founders were mostly white. Worst musical fandom since Phantom of the Opera.
