I really wanted to like it because I thought the music and the lyrics were nice enough but I just can't get over the voice of the main character/writer.I find it so incredibly unpleasant to listen to.

You're not wrong. I like the rest of the show enough that I'm used to his voice now and "like" it for given values, but it's just not Broadway caliber. I am very thankful that he decided not to play Burr (as he almost did!), because Leslie Odom Jr. has an amazing vocal gift and I don't want LMM's version of Wait for It or the Room Where It Happens.
