Re: Complaint Thread

My complaint is armchair political activists who complain about people not voting for Clinton without knowing enough about how the general election works to realize that votes in deep blue or deep red states do not matter and they might as well vote 3rd party to give the Greens - a super liberal party - a chance at more legitimacy.

No, not everyone who doesn't vote for Clinton is "putting Trump in the White House," please learn more about how the general works. Refusing to vote for Clinton in California would do neither jack nor shit.

So in other words: "I'm special and I don't have to vote for her because there won't be ~consequences~ but I still rely on the masses to actually vote for her even though I can't be bothered to do it myself"

If you don't like that, vote otherwise. Use yours to cancel out mine.

Unless you want to change the system so that voters may vote only in the way you want them to, disagreement is something you will have to deal with repeatedly.

You don't have to worry about me not voting, I will. I will also criticize you if you are pro-Sanders but won't vote Clinton. Luckily I'm allowed to do both.

And others are allowed to say that the two party system will never go away unless we actively vote against it. If you say votes matter then Green should count, no?

The two party system will never go away as long as we have FPTP elections and a presidential system. It's more likely that the Greens will supplant the Democrats than that we'll have a 3-party system. And that's not very likely at all. If you want to get rid of the 2-party system, they change you should be working towards is constitutional reform, not support of currently-existing third parties.

Correct and one of the ways to show that I would like reform is not voting r or d.

AIRT is the one insisting all votes matter so by their logic a third party one should as well.

Third party votes do not matter because of the plurality system.

You aren't the only person I've heard say you want to "show you want change" by voting third party and that's not going to change anything. There will always be a few third party voters, everyone sees it, and nothing is changing.

DA

Where are you getting this "I'm special" bullshit? Voting is not a moral obligation.

Considering all the aspects of life politicians fuck with, from property taxes to "bathroom laws" ... yeah, I'd say there's a bit of a moral component to it.

Ehhhhhh. You're not wrong, but I think the priority has to be on making sure that people in Ohio, Pennsylvania, Florida, Virginia, New Hampshire, Colorado, and Iowa do actually vote for the Democratic nominee, and everything else is secondary.

Also I personally dislike the Greens and would encourage voting for one of the even more left parties, although really most of them are quite bad too. The Greens just seem like they're full of people who don't have a damn clue what they're talking about with regards to politics and have all kinds of stupid-ass flaky individual pet issues that they want everyone to focus on. They don't seem to me like a constructive political party. But I guess Party of Socialism and Liberation isn't ultimately much better.

I would support the swing states voting democrat. I would rather not and have the luxury of voting my conscience. According to the anon I think is OP this is for some reason horrible? W/e

Greens are the best of a motley bunch but I'd rather vote third party than not if it's down to trump vs clinton.

If you are in a state where your vote has a meaningful chance of making an impact, and you vote for someone other than the Democratic nominee, you don't have a clean conscience at all. You have on your hands some responsibility for everything that Trump does and everything that he unleashes.

Uh. I literally just said I have the luxury of voting my conscience I.e. I am not in anything near a swing state so that doesnt much apply.
